Opinions wanted: vintage vs. new drivers (MW6510 & MW6511)

If anyone saw my panic this weekend, you know I'm in the market for four drivers. I smoked one of my 1C's (literally...), and used the drivers from a pair of CRS+'s that are waiting to be rebuilt in order to replace the ones in the blown 1C.

Worked just fine, 1C's are back in business, but now I need to get a new set of drivers for the CRS+'s before I can rebuild them. Wondering if anyone has any advice on choosing the new ones that Polk is selling, or if I should try to seek out the older originals?
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

The new ones sound the same and since you need to replace all of them might as well go new. You will need to cut the rubber around the screw holes on the new drivers.

You can't tell the difference between the new vs old drivers. The rubber surround issue is hit or miss in regards to Jesse's comment as it's not always the case.

Jesse - Do you have some pictures? I only have drivers without the problem. I know exactly what you mean but they're asking for pics. Anyone???

Yeah, it wasn't pretty. Squared away now, though.

Wow, the only thing vintage about these CRS+'s when I get through with them is going to be the PR and the pressboard cabinets...

I have a new MW6510 that I bought about a year ago that needed the rubber trimmed. I'll post a pic later this evening.

    Great, thanks Michael.

Anyone else have pics or the same experience with the rubber surrounds on the new drivers? This would be very helpful to getting that problem fixed and/or addressed by Polk Audio guys.

I don't have pics but every new driver I have purchased need the rubber trimmed from the mounting hole spots. That's Six drivers and counting.

    Mark,

I have a 6511 that did not have the rubber surround cut outs at the screw holes. I had to cut them myself. The driver is probably about 4 1/2 to 5 years old.

Do they snap, crackle, and pop like the old ones, and put on a small fireworks display when you screw up and send a DC spike through them?

The new drivers sound great to me. I've heard 4 new ones in a set of SDA-CRS+'s that I now own.
