Bi-Amping, My Findings....

Alright,

Today has started off basically as a day to screw around with speakers, so while I was in the mood....I decided to biamp *ONE* of my RTi70. The right one to be specific. So, I have the extra IXOS Mark gave me, I get it all wired up. Turn on the amp, man I'm pumped! I'm ready to hear an improvement...

So...I turn on a familiar track that I am used to...

I listen carefully....

zooming in on the highs of the RTi70 on the right, then the left....

No Difference......*maybe a tad sweeter...nothing worth plugging an amp up to...*

Zooming in on the mids, little to no improvement.....

I was like, well dang! Adding 2 amps to one speaker has to do something!!!

So...
I turned off my subwoofer, weak...so I set the crossover to 20hz (I know my sub can't hit that low, but it has a crossover setting that low)...

Well here we go! WOW! NOW THERE IS THE DIFFERENCE...

Although slight, it has much more.....*UH*....Poundage? lol

Overall, I found bi-amping not worth 200 dollars....so I will unwire the configuration and leave it be...

This is my opinion, for I hold no responsibility for shattered hearts, broken limbs, dumbfounded minds, or beyond this world mental illnesses this may cause you bi-ampers out there to read...

Anyways....this is what I found....oh well

don't feel bad sid, I had a Onkyo 504 amp with A & B outputs and i bi-amped my 70's and didn't really tell any difference either. people who do i guess just do, But i had 165 watts to each binding post and didn't notice anymore then maybe like you said, more power obviously, but not much else

Interesting experiment doing one ch and not the other... very inventive lil bro...

I think what you learned is neither your wire nor your amp is limiting your system performance at this time in your listening space. Another day, in another (larger) room and you might hear a diferent result.

Like I say very inventive... wonder if you can "test" different wire this way????

Agreed, very innovative test method. Definitely noticed a difference with my 800s biamped. Not necessarily louder, definitely fuller and more headroom before clipping. Room is 18' x 19' x 8' with openings in the rear L/R walls.

I have read somewhere that to really benfit from BiAmp you need to have external crossovers and you should have speakers on which you can disable internal crossover. I think the idea is to have an external crossover before the amp, so that the amp only works in a specific FR. This also allows an amp to have a better controll over the driver (as there would be no crossover in between). Has any one tried this sort of BiAmping?

You may have read that here. Was raised a while back.

While the consensus was that it is the only way to truly unburdon an amp, it is difficult to do and can lead to many issues.

May get my search on and dig up the old thread later.
