So I went to the local Magnolia with Flim and the BB's "This is a Recording" CD just for fun and listened to track 2 through a bunch of towers: B&W's, Def Techs, Energys, and Martin Logan Electromotions. The cd was going through a 7.1 Pio Elite, VSX 33, I think, and made sure the powered sub was off. The ML's blew all the other towers away in regards to imaging, soundstage and fullness. I don't know how to explain it but it was like the sound was coming from all over the place.

Does anyone here have any substantial experience with electrostatics? I'm really considering putting together a little piggy bank so I can own these things one day. Is there anything else in this price range I should be listening to first? Opinions are appreciated.

My experience with ML comes onlu from the demo room, and that is not a great place to hear them... Maggies on the other hand, are a wonderful sounding speaker. My little MMG's image beautifully, are very detailed and throw a nice soundstage. I look forward to having the space again to get the larger 3.6's or even the 20.1's, which will get me some better bass response. Good luck in your quest for better sound.

the sound you are hearing is from the panel because there's no inertia like a heavy cone has when it throws sound at your ears . I myself own martin logan speakers .matinee, stage and source se towers . The electromotion are priced right now at 2K but the vista is being discontinued so the price of them has fallen to as little as $2600 in some places .The electromotions have a 34 inch panel versus 40 inch plus an inch extra in width that the vista has . The electromotion is extremely easy to drive at 91 db efficiency so if tubes is on the card they would be my pick

Martin logan speakers give a fantastic sound and you dont have to crank the volume up to reference level to hear all the sound . I love the airy sound and haunting soundstage they have . I had a matinee center paired with the source se but got the big dawg stage center channel and now with the addition of another matinee center channel to perform surround duty I'm in marty logan heaven

I say buy the electromotion and get hooked on stats as they really are awesome speakers that rival other speakers that cost 5 times more . Electrostats are the most accurate for reproducing sound some have said some BS about them not being good for HT? Thats the biggest load of crap I have heard about the electrostats .Buy them and dont look back

Thanks so much. I've seen some insane pricing on the Sources (around 600+) since the Electromotions came out and I think maybe the prices will fall even more. Not sure I can touch the $2k price tag right now. Since I listened to them this morning it's all I can think about. I'm in full-blown audio obsession mode right now. Those ML's sounded so good that they somehow made my Monitor 60's sound better!

I know what you mean there, when I first listened to ML's I was fortunate to be in the market for a new HT system and heard the source . Let me just add that the source is a great speaker and for $1200 shipped you just cant go wrong and on ebay there are some really good deals .The electromotion have already started to go down in price as they are going for around $1699 on audiogon and thats the $2500 ones with the fancy piano black cabinets

Martin logan speakers just look like a contemporary modern art scuplture rather than a speaker . I find its a conversation piece when some one walks into the room and takes a gander at them
