Makes a lot of sense. So can I show up and beat his **** and call it MY house now?

Smart individual. Can't blame the guy for doing his homework.
What I don't understand is, SOMEONE is on the hook for that mortgage, so how did it get to this point? I understand the mortgage co. is out of business, but usually, they just broker the financing. Or atleast, that's the way I understand it:confused:

    Thats atlanta, just in case.

No law to back the atlanta squatters, just a claim the whole home ownership process is racist and they have rights, blah blah blah, but the cops are having a little trouble keeping up with them, simply because there are beginning to be enough of them to overload the system.

Of course these are people who dont work, trash the homes in no time, just like everywhere they have lived, bring crime and are hostile to the legitimate homeowners in neighborhood.

I love it when people beat the system (in this case anyway) legally because it is usually stacked up against the average guy.

Kinda ridiculous....but its a very unlikely set of circumstances (mortgage company going out of business)

I am sure the HOA regulations will either be ammended or already have things in place...like maintaining electricity or plumbing....without it would usually be a public health hazard

I think this is a bunch of drama nonsense. Some mortgage co. has to own the title on that house!!

I'm sure there are back taxs owed and utility leans on it too. I thought governments can make all the mistakes they want to but in the end, what's really meant for everybody will stand.

    Thieves motto....vvv

Possession is 9/10 of the law. LOL BS

This story just might open a flood gate of opportunists that will try the same thing across America!!

Uh....that is the objective, to overload the system. Your kids are taught this crap in college, even High School these days.

    Someone has to have ownership.
Didn't Florida have this problem last year and had to quickly change the laws ?

It doesn't have to be a mortgage company...but Tony is right...someone (some entity) owns a mortgage loan which is secured by a lien on that house. When a mortgage company goes out of business, their assets are sold to another company or taken over by a bankruptcy court, etc. The mortgage company may have already bundled that particular mortgage and sold it to investors before they went out of business. It doesn't just cease to exist. At some point the holder of the mortgage may show up and start to forclose and kick the squatter out...regardless of what papers he filed.

I'll have to check this out, since it's my town.
There are a lot of odd things going on with houses since the
mortgage companies and courts are clogged with this stuff.
I saw a report on TV where some POS in N.Y. filed to stop
foreclosure on his house. Seems he hasn't made a payment
in 8 years! He was saying he wanted to make a deal to keep his house.
Free living for 8 years, and of course he was one of the "sub-prime"
loans. What that really means they gave a high interest risky loan
to a guy who couldn't afford it. No he's living free while somebody
else holds the bag. What a tool! Throw the bums out. Why should
I feel sorry for someone like that? He signed paperwork for a loan
he couldn't afford. End of story. No job loss, no big event why he
couldn't pay, just took out too big of a loan.
