Karaoke with 7.1

I have a few questions about setting up a Karaoke system. To start, I did do a search and the least post about Karaoke was in 2004. So please help out.
1. My current set up is a 7.1 with Polk monitor 70 as my fronts. Center and surround are Boston Bravo 2 (7 total). sub is a Valedin 12". All are power by a Onkyo 806. Play station 3 is my main player.
Room size is 25X20 +/- a few.
My question is. I'm going to set up a Karaoke system. I was wondering if I add a mixer in the equation, can I use my current system (speakers) for my Karaoke setup?
My problem is my setup right now is very clean to the eyes and ears. I really don't want to add 2 big PA speaker into my living room, but I also don't want to damage my current setup. I will if I have to.
Also the karaoke part is just for in home use with a few weekend friends gather for a little fun.
Any input will be great. Thanks ahead.

I personally think karaoke should be reserved for headphone use only. But - with that being said:
I don't think you should have any issues with what you want to do. Obviously the same principle applies, in that you shouldn't be cranking up the volume to an unacceptable level that could be damaging to the components.
Not sure if you are worried about the 7.1 piece of it, but they system will decode itself as needed (and it more than likely will not be 7.1 when it's done)
Now (being unfamiliar with karaoke setups) - would you be looking at using the mixer in conjunction with the AVR by means of an open set of aux jacks? Or would you be looking at running a dedicated karaoke setup, and bi-wiring the speakers with 2 seperate inputs? I would not recommend the latter - go through a speaker switch if that is what you were planning.
Hope that helps, I'm sure someone a little more knowledgeable on the specific subject will chime in eventually65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)
Pioneer Elite SC-37
Polk Monitor 70's (2)
Polk Monitor 40's (4)
Polk Monitor CS2
Polk DSW Pro 660wi
Oppo BDP-93
Squeezebox Duet
Belkin PureAV PF60
Dish Network "The Hoppa" -
Why not get a Karaoke Player to wire direct. They have mic inputs on them and will solve the possible damage to any system. Something like the VocoPro DVG888K II.
Playing with a mixer can work but you could overdrive the channel it is connected to and damage your AVR.
