We drove an hour north last night to Thackerville OK to the Winstar Casino to see a sold out show by Steely Dan.

Those guys and gals still have it.

Probably one of the best concerts I have been to in a while.

They play many old and newer songs, 5 cuts off Aija, Reeeling in the years, some jazz stuff I had not heard before.

13 piece band.

2 hours of live audio heaven.

If they come near you highly recommend attending if you can.

One of the better bands from that era....if it were my band I sure wouldn't have named it Steely Dan. The band 10cc is not much better. :O

Check out these band name origins.

    The Dan was great!!

but.....the sound did suck! I really don't know whether Frontier Sound was to blame or if that room has that bad of bass boost. The mix was too bass heavy and vocals were smeared. I couldn't believe that they couldn't get it right after Aja was almost unrecognizable as a leadoff song. They did get it a little better, but I wish I would have gotten tickets for the Brady Theater in Tulsa for Tuesday instead of the casino gig. Still enjoyed the evening since you never know how long these old farts are going to tour. They went 20 years without touring in the last hiatus.

Not knocking the event, just that I guess that I get spoiled attending concerts at Red Rocks.........

Steely Dan is a fav of mine. I'd go see them again. Love the band name.

In a BBC interview, Jonathan King's version of how 10cc got its name doesn?t jive with Band Name Origins.

Can't disagree but it was good enough. Better than the alternative by a mile. Winstar does usually sound better. They did make several changes for this show.

I'm glad to hear that Winstar concerts are normally better, as I might not go back for a concert if this is normal. I truly enjoyed the show being a huge fan from the middle '70s and of all the concerts I expect to have great sound it would be Steely Dan.

Enjoyed it, had a great time, just wanted to hear it all, the details I've come to know......

    What's a name anyway...they're a great band nonetheless.

Love Steely Dan (and the name). Hoping to see them at the Beacon Theater this fall.

I saw the show mentioned below 20 years ago on a friend's 30th birthday. After the show, the band headed for their trailer, but Walter Becker just walked outside. My wife, my friend, and I introduced ourselves and walked a few blocks with him, gushing over how great it was to see him play with Fagen. I remember he signed the card we had given my friend. You can all thank me, because they obviously reunited because of us ;-)
The fire ignited on October 25, 1991 at the Lone Star Roadhouse in New York City at a Libby Titus's "New York Nights" songwriter showcase. Donald Fagen was going to be making an unadvertised appearance and performing a couple of Steely Dan oldies. Walter Becker was in town working on Fagen's album, but emphatically stated he would not join Donald on stage. Walter just wanted to watch. But when the crowd discovered Walter's attendance they showed their tremendous appreciation and Walter relented, strapped on a guitar, and joined Donald on "Black Friday," "Josie'" and "Chain Lightning." A while after the Lone Star show, Fagen joked to Becker about whether he'd like to join the New York Rock&Soul Review on their first tour outside New York City. Becker, to Fagen's surprise, said "sure." Apparently they both had a great time too.
