I just double checked, and I stand corrected mhardy. My bad, but it still is a benchmark 70's receiver in the phono department.Thorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's -
Nice picture. I have an SA-202 that I use for an Ipod system in my laundry room. I have owned it since 1980 and had to replace one of the output devices back in the mid eighties. The thing sees use almost daily, doesn't have the greatest sound but won't die. I don't have the heart to put it out to pasture. Cheers.
Come to think of it, I had to have mine repaired when one of the outputs went out.

Technics started it all for me with the SA-303. Hardly in the same league as what you're looking at but you sparked a memory. I think my sister still has it along with a Technics TT that I found for her in a yard sale.

This is kinda funny. A local antique store has a booth with one of these in it right now for $39.95. Thought about grabbing it just because it looks cool. They also had a turntable, a Technics SL-D202 that was missing the headshell for $12.95. I bought it and put an extra Technics headshell I had in it and it works great, awesome deal for $13. -
Just picked up my Pioneer SX-3900 (about 44.1 lbs) two 15,000 mfd caps, large toroidal transformer--neat looking fluroscan display--the last of the Pioneer silver faces. She's a looker, if nothing else--not quite the build quality of the previous SX-1050 that had the same power rating but good enough. Haven't hooked her up to the minty large Advents I just got from a real nice guy, member of AudioKarma--offered me some extra speaks I couldn't really fit into the compact so left them behind (could have kicked myself for not driving the Chevy down--I would've given those speaker away here--no space for them home, but he threw in a Sherwood S-7120 receiver for free (26W x 2 [definitely going to the garage along with some 80s KLH 3 way horn 12 inchers--nothing special but they can blast])!
A real Mensch, had some beautiful speakers there. Including some Dynacos, Wilsons, and a minty set of Monitor 10s (vintage). It's really great to see peoples' set ups and collections.
I also got a Sansui 5000A from the Pioneer seller at a nice price. I hooked that boy up to a pair of no name Ratshack two way 6 inchers and my what a sweet tuner that has in there. Not bad, not bad at all. The sound is somewhere between tubby and tubey--the tubby part is probably due to the inferior speakers (didn't want to blow anything) on the trial run. But I must tell you those Ratshacks never sounded so 'good'?
The Technics SA-800 is off the table--no biggie. The owner's son stepped in to claim it. Probably no loss there from the commentary above.
Thanks to everyone above...pics to come?

Sherwood S-7210 is a nice little receiver...

Just got the Sherwood set up today on a pair of cheapo RatShack two ways. This definitely has one nice Tuner section in it...seems more sensitive than my bigger more upscale Sansui 5000A and the Pioneer SX-3900.
The Sanui has the most pleasing sound--almost 'tubey'. The Pioneer the 'power' and more 'detail' and it's the purdiest!, and the Sherwood a nice balance of features (for a smaller '70s receiver) and that strong tuner--if only I could get all those things in one 'unit'?
The Pioneer, though, does 'rock' hard on the new Large Advents--some real 70s sound there.

From your posted pics throughtout the forum it appears you must have an incredible and enviable vintage collection. It seem's a model get's mentioned and you follow with a pic. from your personal stash.Do you have a head count? -
nope; it would be dangerous. When my wife asks me, I tell her that we have "almost enough" stereo equipment. Most of the stuff is actually pretty junky; I think I have a heart for old hifi junk in the same way that many (more normal) folks do for stray pets. One bonus is, over three decades of fiddling with this stuff, I've seen, heard, used, and in many cases restored lots of different pieces, so I like to think that I can speak with some experience (if not expertise) on the merits and performance of numerous pieces of (at least old) stuff.
That particular S-7210 was, like much of my junk, a town dump "swap pile" find. The "Yankee swap pile" or "put and take pile" is a tradition at small New England town dumps (actually, ours is a "transfer station" and not a dump in the classic sense). Like many of these pieces, it has since been passed along, gratis, to a good home. I rarely sell stuff, because I just don't like doing it. I always try to snap a few photos before passing them along, for posterity.
Sort of on topic: the old solid state Sherwoods sound good and have excellent tuners in them.
Small receivers like that make great starter receivers for someone starting out in hifi. Like the heroin pusher, we like to make the first taste free! :-)
