I may regret selling this, but I just haven't gotten around to hooking it up in the new house.
It's about 4 years old, but I'll try to verify exactly when I bought it. Everything is in great shape and it will be double boxed in the original shipping containers.
$325 to you door CONUS

I've got receipts for everything from Mortite to my PJ, but I can't find my receipt for this. I just checked some old threads and saw that I bought my XPA-5 in Jan. '09. I know I got the SMS-1 several months after that purchase, so I've had it more like 2 years:redface:Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Great unit for a great price, I love what mine did for my system. The sub volume control alone was worth it to me.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

If I had the cash this would be marked "Sold".
Sub EQ is on the list of things my Integra doesnt do :frown:

Ok stupid question, but for multiple subs does this EQ each sub independent of each other or all subs together?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I've never run two subs, so I don't know from experience. I have a meeting in about 30 minutes, but I'll get the owners manual later and see if I can find the answer for you. Anyone who knows the answer please chime in.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Think I found my answer but check me on it anyway:There are three unbalanced ?LFE? outputs (for attaching up to 3 subwoofers in parallel).
Though we would have liked to have seen the ability to independently EQ two subwoofers in the SMS-1, we recognize it would complicate setup for most end users of single subwoofer systems.........the SMS-1 has the ability to be daisy changed to additional units to make it a reality. A ?Thru? connection (stereo) routes pure, un-EQ?d signal out of the SMS-1, allowing for daisy-chaining of multiple units.

You are correct. It can control multiple subs, but all 3 subs get the same processed signal. I would really like to EQ my subs, but I will have to run 2 of them as I run stereo subs. Someday....
GLWTS on a great unit.

All subs together. I have an SMS-1 and have run up to four subs (SVS 20-39PCPlus cylinders) through it. I now run a pair of SVS PB12/Plus-2's through it.
The SMS-1 has three RCA outputs so three subs can be plugged right in. However, it does not EQ each sub separately. All three get the same signal.
I use an Onkyo PR-SC886 controller/preamp equipped with Audyssey EQ capablity. I run the SMS-1 calibration with both (all) subs first, then turn on the 886 and let it do its thing with Audyssey. A bit of tweaking phase and levels on each sub is worthwhile, too. I have been very happy with the results.
One feature that gets very little attention when considering a sub EQ is the fact that the SMS-1 has remote controllable volume control. Different EQ profiles can also be changed via remote. (The IR codes can be programmed into any universal remote.) I find this to be a very useful feature after living with my SMS-1 for years. Some sound mixes may be a little bass-hot or could use a little boost in the bottom end. The SMS-1 allows this to be done very easily. The other LFE EQ solutions I have investigated do not allow this. While most AVRs and controllers allow adjustment of the bass/LFE level, it's much easier with the SMS-1.
I've also taken the SMS-1 out of the chain and let Audyssey in the 886 do all the calibration. I prefer the SMS-1's contribution. I have considered buying a second SMS-1 and using one for each sub (which is why I clicked on this thread!) and may stil try it out. I have also owned the Behringer BFD, and Antimode and tried out the dedicated Audyssey box sold by SVS. I prefer the SMS-1. Another one might help a little more, but I don't think the impact will be enough to justify a full-price purchase. If I can find one at a good deal, though......My 7.4.4 DIY 4k Home Theater:

I found using a db meter on subs first to set gain for each sub then use SMS-1 to do it's job. Works great.engtaz

I dont want to muddy up this thread, but can you PM me a bit more of your thoughts on those other products (antimode, Audyssey box) as those were also options I was looking at in the future.
In my case as I said I have Audyssey 2EQ which doesnt EQ the sub, just shows its there and allows you to set a crossover (doesnt do as good a job on the mains, but I can live with its results).
Other than sub EQ I dont need any more connections so I dont want to purchase another AVR just for the EQ at this time, just want to augment it with a product like this. My next AVR will have Multi EQ XT32 and be able to do multiple, but thats a couple years out."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I picked up one of those Mael 21" which may or probably won't work, it's a gamble.
I will let you know if it works out so you can take a listen. I probably have a month or 2 before I finally get back to building subs though. -
