Monster's Inc.

The kids and I watched Monster's Inc. the other day. Darn near know the movie by heart. But this was the first time I watched it with the SVS. First off, the sound quality was unreal, the part where the monster has the sock stuck on him and they yell "2319,2319" then they blow up the sock. The room pressure changed so much the kids went upstairs. Told mom they were scared, said it was too loud, of course, once again, got in trouble. Nothing like pissing off the wife because things upstairs were falling off the walls and the glass break sensor on the alarm started beeping, which is in the kitchen.

In my house, the 7 year old has learned to run for cover and dive beneath the couch pillows when she hears "2319! 2319!". It's great fun. Tell the wife it's a game you are playing with the kids and maybe she'll understand. Not.
Aside from the foundation altering pressure change, did you notice how well the SVS conveys the fact that this explosion occurs beneath a large steel dome? It sounds extraordinarily powerful, yet muffled at the same time - just how you would expect it to sound in real life. These subtle audio cues impress me as much as the insane clean SPL this thing is capable of.
Next up..........the first "wing flap" in LOTR-TTT. Holy moses!"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

My kids enjoy the opening explosion in SWII AOTC as well as the dinosaur and battle scenes near the end. They hop down off the couch and peer under the sub to watch the driver rumble.

If my wife saw me post something like this she'd have me committed.
Yeah, I'm waiting for this myself - good thing she doesn't read my posts...as far as I know.
Grimster, I think you and I are in the same boat on the WAF regarding this hobby. I can relate to everything you post about this issue. I'm thinking we might need to rent and/or buy some "wifey" DVD's to get them more interested. At least that would fair much better than them seeing body parts blowing off people as in SPR...at least it might for me.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

Ya gotta admit, that 20 mm cannon in the final bridge battle was very impressive when it ripped that guy in half who was standing on the tank. It was a very brief scene but that particular special effect is burned into my memory. What an incredible movie."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Doc,
I agree with the Wing flap in LOTR TTT. Both instances, the first when they are in the bog, and the second when Frodo is on top of the building.
What really got me was the Bog scene, when after the Ring/blood wraiths fly off and Frodo, Gollum, and Sam start discussing it.....in the background you can still hear the flapping of the wings. Very good use of sound effects by Jackson and his crew.
