Who are "those" people?

Stevie soapbox time....
Ever wonder who "those" people are? I do. You know, the jerk with the cell phone, the a-hole who runs the red light, the jacka$$ parents with the totally out of control kids? The people who take advantage of every single situation (aka handicap plates). The scammers, the spammers, the flim-flammers, the cons, the dons. The people who will expend more effort getting out of work, than actually doing it right in the first place, and maybe gaining some respect---wow, what a concept huh?
Reading an article today about a restaurant in Pittsburg that has banned children 6 and under due to the terrible behavior allowed by the parents; got me thinking about this--as about 98% of the respondents AGREED with the policy---as do I.
So who are these a$$holes? Seriously. No one will fess up to being that person. Maybe it's a relative thing--or like bad breath--you don't know that you are the one everyone is whispering about?
I think some good 'ol peer pressure is LONG overdue. That's what this country is missing. I am charging you (if you're not one of "them") to go on a crusade to end the "acceptance" of ignorant people---to STOP looking the other way. To verbally "bust-out" these mal contents and incompetetants.
I challenge you.

I'm soooo with you on this Steve, I've been doing it for years. I don't go after folks talking on cell phones in cars, that's dangerous enough as it is, my specialty is poorly behaving children in public with their parents standing by, every situation calls for a different method/tatic/approach. All of these behaviors, in my opinion, have roots in poor parenting skills. When you are allowed to be a jerk as a kid, you're gonna grow up to be a selfish jerk. That's just the plain truth right there. When your whole life has been all about YOU, due to weak-**** parents that are more interested in being your pal, than your parent; you're going to grow up to be a self-centered ignorant jerk. It is what it is, and there's no way around it.
If this observation offends you---GOOD, you ARE one those a$$holes. Climb out of yourself long enough to realize that you are not helping anyone--but yourself--shocker there, huh? You already knew that.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
My morning trip is usually to Starbucks, its just my routine, and I can't count how many days I stand in line while someone orders while on the phone. Then they order the longest drink ever, for what? To watch their figure? Not likely. At some point I'll explode but until then....CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? It's simple spare the rod spoil the child.

I don't get how people can't distinguish between letting their kid develop their own character, while at the same time making good behavior a portion of that exercise. I know it can be done---even today--so don't give me that "your just getting old" crap. My grandchildren are very well behaved, even by my archaic standards; well, let me correct that, one set of grand children are well behaved, the other set, nah. See, their mom & dad are Oregon hippies, so all behaviors are allowed because they are "just expressing themselves." What a load of crap, and a cop-out. Expressing yourself can be accomplished outside of the realm of poor behavior---but nice try.
They behave around me however, because I will light up those butts, and they know it. I have (thankfully) never had to whip those butts (yet), but I did pull out my belt once---you should have seen their faces, it as priceless--you'd a thought I was gonna cut an arm off or something. They give me zero grief now...LOL
Look, nobody (good) likes to discipline children. It's not an enjoyable thing, but we are adults, and it IS our responsibility to raise our children with good manner and politeness. It builds character, it teaches acceptance and humility. I also teaches children tolerance. A very important ingredient in a free society.
What do mean by tolerance? Short version: Living outside of your comfort zone, for the sake of some else. Aka: climb out of yourself--the world doesn't just revolve around YOU.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
You might want to think twice about spanking your child in Texas.

I've done this for YEARS, vocally and "in their face". It doesn't win me a lot of friends in this ridiculously ever-increasng politically correct world, but I'm happy and convinced I'm doing the right thing.
We're at a crossroads now, a tipping point if you will, where I belive it will either start to turn around, or just go straight to pieces.

It's tough to be a good parent, but it pays you back many times over in the long run.
Setting rules and limits and enforcing them diligently and consistently was the only way for me - anything else and you're either sending mixed messages or the wrong message. I never had a problem taking my young children anywhere. On the rare occasion when any of them acted in a way that might disturb others, I removed them immediately - no scene, just, We're going outside. Now. And we're not going back in until your behavior changes for the better. Physical punishment never worked, as it only tended to escalate the situation. YMMV. -
You need a license to catch a fish, have a dog, drive a motor vehicle, but they let any arse wipe be a parent. Most the time I'll call people on their crap in public, it's when you don't call them on it that just entices them to keep doing what it is that annoys you.
Just saw a story about some joe shmoe group advocating government take away your child if they are too obese.
Can't tell people how to raise their own kids, lest you would like someone to tell you the same. Thats the way the cookie crumbles.
The way I see it is, we used to teach a certain moral behavior as parents,an in our schools. Sort of a double re-enforcement. Parents have become too busy chasing that buck, and schools....well,we all know the story there. What your witnessing is the moral degration of a society in general. Sucks doesn't it ?HT SYSTEM-

I would have done something different than a ban. I'd put in a sound proofed room with a sign that says "bad parents dining area" and throw the families in there when there is a problem. It would have glass walls so the other diners could ridicule them.Vinyl, the final frontier...

Banning them is fine by me. Take your kids to Chuckie Cheese, heck I wish they would do that in some of the places I go.
And what's with parents letting kids run around the table and loud. If I had done that it would have been a whack and sit your arse down in that quiet angry parental tone. It's called respect for those around you. And don't get me started on the texting at the table thing.
My in-laws let this stuff happen unless they are with me. I have ZERO problem correcting them or there children. I would not want to be disturbed as a patron and don't want to be embarrassed by there lack of parental guidance. -
I've never had any problems like these with my kids. But I realize that there is a whole new generation with such enfant terribles!
But I'm not for banning kids necessarily. Just enforce some standards in those places that would ask parents with such children to 'curb their enthusiasm' or else?
Also, I see that 'some' of you have kids above...and I bet there are some of you who don't? Am I right?

Yeah, these peopel are never going to change themselves, so polite / normal society has to stand up to them. If you work at Starbucks and someone tries to order while on the phone, just ignore them and ask the person behind them what they'd like.
I think what society is missing is a sense of SHAME. No one is ever shamed any more. Shame parents for being bad parents, shame people for being rude, maybe eventually they'll get it.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I don't have kids but we are trying. And I know everyone says it's different when you have your own, but honestly I prefer the way my parents raised me to how kids are raised now.

I've got one, what about the aholes that use prime parking. I'm not talking about non handicapped people using handicapped spots, i'm talking about parking in the fire lane. The other day I came out of the grocery store and there was a new style f150 parked IN FRONT OF THE AUTOMATIC DOORS, I had to walk around it. I've seen people do this and leave their kids in the cars, ugh! I'm about to the point to print up 100 flyers that state 'THIS IS NOT A PARKING SPOT, NOTICE THE NO PARKING SIGN YOU ARE PARKED IN FRONT OF, AND THE YELLOW STRIPED LINES, DUMBASS'. I guess those kind of people have some kind of feeling of entitlement. I like to stare them down when I'm pulling in or out of the lot, they know what they are doing.
Not to rant anymore then I have, but I also have it out for those 'half-fat' people who take the electric wheel chairs. Those aren't there because your fat, those are there to be of assistance to the disabled, and you weighing in at 500lbs is not a disability, its stupidity. Let the elderly and the TRUELY disabled use those. Argh! -

Cody,
I have 2 large "No Parking" signs on my warehouse loading gate--for obvious reasons. You'd be amazed how many asshats park there anyway. I now place signs on their windshield that say: "YOU ARE PARKED ILLEGALLY--NOTE THE SIGNS IN FRONT OF YOUR WINDSHIELD. NEXT TIME I'LL HAVE YOU TOWED."
The electric car thing---yeah, WTH is up with that. Ever notice it's typically seriously overweight folks? And they wonder why they are overweight? I believe the "intention" was to have them for elderly, and those who can't walk (cast, handicapped, etc).Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

What a great idea for a new reality TV show 'Bad Parents Dining Area'!! With paramedics waiting on the sidelines. The only way you can leave is to start acting normal and using whatever is handy for discipline, other diners making side bets on which little 'Johnny' or 'Susie' gets an ambulance ride first  and bonus points for creative uses of said items :cool:Thorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's -
I routinely ask not to be seated near kids in restaurants. Also, if they show me to a table where kids are around I ask if I can have another table. I get a few funny looks from the hostess's. I just explain that I either need coffee or a drink before I can face dealing with kids.
It's also why I usually sit in the bar at dinner. The main reason is no kids. I'd rather sit in a smoking section (some states still have them), because there are fewer kids in that area.

Speaking of... We had a large event down the street from us earlier this year, about 8,000 people attended, with parking for only about 2000 people, it was a madhouse. I had put little flags along the road, and no a no parking sign as soon as I saw that people we're parking in peoples front yards, etc... Jes was up in the front yard, and I was poking around behind the house, a man pulls over our flags, she politely asks him no to park in our yard, his response - 'you can't tell me where your yard ends and where the state right of way begins, so I'm not going to move'. He then proceeded to be even more of a dick to her. She came back to get me, and he was almost on his way, I flagged him down, asked him if he had in fact been rude to her, and he started to stumble over his words. My response to him, 'Look, I don't care where you park your SUV, but if you park here I know every tower in this county, and I'll go down the list until one comes and hauls your vehicle off, then you can figure out where it is'. He wasn't happy with my response to say the least, but promptly moved his vehicle.
I can't believe the arrogance of some people, he was more than happy to be rude to a little 110 pound woman, but it was a different story when I came up front. To boot, he was carrying a large gun, this WAS a gun show, jerk. -
Get outta here Young'un
