I'm looking to buy a basic function laptop with bluray and hdmi out so I can also use it as portable bluray player. I came across this deal for Toshiba Satellite L750 - $519 shipped:

Intel? Core? i3 Processor (2nd generation)
Genuine Windows? 7 Home Premium
4GB memory
500GB hard drive
Mobile Intel? HD graphics
DVD SuperMulti drive + Blu-Ray
1366x768 native screen resolution
HDMI output
802.11n wireless
Integrated webcam
15.6" Diagonal Widescreen HD (1366x768) TruBrite? LCD display
Microsoft Office Starter Edition

Good deal or no? Anything else I should be looking at?

Of course they did, the day before I started looking. I'll check back with them but I've got to have it in hand in less than three weeks.

I like Lenovos, no blu-ray on this one though. I pulled the trigger on the Toshiba last night. I think it's a pretty good deal based on what I was seeing out there. Maybe not the best deal if I had time to wait , but good enough.

That's a fair price for the Toshiba considering it has a Blu-Ray Player. Funny I was just looking at that laptop yesterday (without the bluray). The one I was looking at was about the same price but I bumped up to the i-5 processor.

I debated about bumping up to the I5 but in the end decided I didn't need it. Hope I don't regret that decision. Toshiba had a $40 off promo code for tht model at the beginning of the week but it was limited to 200 redemptions so I doubt if it's still available. You may want to check though.

Something to consider is the graphics card if your using the HDMI out. If its not an AMD 5xxx or 6xxxx chip (not sure what models Nvidia's do this) you wont get bitstreamed lossless audio from your laptop.

That may or may not be a big deal to you.

That's a point I hadn't considered, but for this application it's not a big deal. It would only be using the tv speakers anyway  or at best a 3.0 setup.

True, but thinking long term it might be worth the extra cost now.

Plus as your laptop is portable, you might connect it to other systems that would be able to use the bitstream abilities.

That and you might upgrade your HT components and it would be nice to know you are already covered on that.

The HT is covered, I've got the ps3 for that. This would be more for my daughter taking a movie back to the bedroom to watch what she wants instead of what we're watching. If I had plans for it to be a full-on entertainment laptop, I'd probably do it but I just don't see me needing that for my uses.

Now watch, I'll be kicking myself for not doing it in a couple of months.

Sometimes timing works in your favor. My new laptop arrived early this afternoon, my old laptop went belly up early this evening. On top of that, I just did a full backup on the old laptop Friday night. Once in a while, once in a very great while, things actually work out.
