Any thoughts on tubes4hifi pre-amps?

http://www.tubes4hifi.com/pre11.htm#SP12 , mainly the SP12 SE model, a friend is looking pretty hard at one of these, he seems to want to build something himself and thinks this one would be a good choice. Do any of ya'll have any thoughts? It will be used with a pair of Cary SLM-100 Monos. It certainly isn't going to win a beauty contest 
. And the layout looks nice to me, but I'm not that knowledgable with tube gear to judge. Thanks in advance
