I attended the Capitol AudioFest held outside of Washington DC in Rockville MD this weekend and got to look and listen to the new Polk LSiM 707?s running on some really sweet Audio Research gear. In my opinion Polk has really hit the mark with these speakers, the low frequencies were well controlled and extended, good midrange performance and non-fatiguing detailed highs. I was also quite impressed with the dynamics; I?m sure the Audio Research gear helped with all of the above.

They had all the internal components (drivers, crossovers) laid out on a table, as well as a cut-out of the LSiM 707, the quality was quite evident. I was particularly impressed with the drivers, nice beefy cages and just a refined finished look, none of that cheap stamped frame look. Beautiful cabinets too!

In my opinion the LSiM 707?s are quite an improvement over the older LSi series, when I auditioned the LSi15?s last year I was somewhat disappointed. One thing to keep in mind though is that these new LSiM?s are quite a bit more expensive then the older LSi?s.

The last thing that I took away from the show is the opinion that spending 20 ? 30K on a set of speakers does not represent the best value. Nothing I heard at the show up to the 20-30K range bettered my Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Signature System?s. Even my audio challenged girlfriend was in agreement with this.

How were they versus other speakers at similar price-points at the show? All the speakers and rooms i've been reading that people enjoyed were, upon checking, with speakers that were way more expensive so just curious

The LSiM 707s were pretty competitive with anything at twice their price and in my opinion quite a bit better then some of the overpriced monitors I listened to.

I would correct you here and say they were MUCH better than many systems 5-10 times their price~

Obsession - Thanks for coming out and for posting your comments. We're very happy with the show and how well we displayed VS the obviously more expensive and boutique offerings there. I'm sorry I missed you when you were in the room.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
