After upgrading the xovers on my 20+ yr old 8Ts, I was thinking of painting them. Can I paint right over the veneer? Or should I remove it?

You could try using a primer to help paint adhere but the finish may not be all that great.

Yeah, been reading up on it. Some folks say it's ok to paint over the veneer with primer and some say it snot. (I meant that)

If it were me I would remove the veneer, clean up the cabinets to get a nice smooth surface and lay down a few coats of whatever color your looking for.

I am guessing you want Black considering the BA's you just returned. Just take your time and sand them in between coats to get the best coverage.

Are they actually wood veneer or vinyl laminate? Polk sold both.

    RTA 8Ts are vinyl.

Ok. There are paints designed to go over vinyl (plastic), but I do not recommend going that route.

    Do you have spray equipment?

No spray equipment. I was just going to use a gloss black spray paint to match my JBL CS10 sub.

While not impossible, you're looking at a ton of work to get a proper high gloss finish from a spray can. My advice, strip the vinyl, take the empty cabinets to an auto body shop and have them do it.

I will kick that around. My daughter just wrecked her car. Maybe I can have them throw in the cabinets too if I give them the business. thanks
