FXi30s in the house!
I had intended on purchasing a pair of Polk FXi30s from Crutchfield for the sale price of $279.00. I thought that was a pretty good price. Well, last night I decided to stop at Circuit City and they were on sale there for $85.00 each. Even with tax, I paid much less than Crutchfield is charging. I'm glad I made the stop. I plan on running wire in the wall, so it will take me a while to get these set up. I'm almost tempted to set the up on stands for now, until I get the wires run.

I just got back from Circuit City and used a pricematch receipt to get the fxi30's for $78.XX ea.! I'm just now breaking them in and was wondering how most of you guys are placing them? Do you find wall mounting them a better idea soundwise than just on stands? Any ideas would be helpful.
Derekgo -
I've heard mixed replies regarding this topic. I plan on mounting mine on the wall (if I get the time to run the wire). Others have said that stands work just fine. The only issue that I see is that surrounds are normally placed 2 to 3 feet above your head when seated (6 to 7 feet from the floor). I haven't seen any stands that are that high and they probably wouldn't be that stable any way.

Thanks for your input Ray...I think I'm going to wall-mount them too. They are definitely nice sounding surround speakers. just want to make sure I get the optimum placement for them.

Where(city, state) is everyone getting these FXi30's so cheap?
Are they new or Open Box deals?
BTW
I saw something while perusing CC one day that turned me off to Open Box buys. As you all know, people walk in and out of the Theatre rooms at will and with no supervision most of the time and you can pretty much fiddle with what ever you can get your hands on until someone comes buy.
That being said, I was there one day and saw someone wander into the room and started playing with the dials till the person found the volume, and he proceeded to crank it up. The distortion was awful and all an employee did was come by and shut the door.
That just can't be healthy for most of the speakers in there, especially when most receivers are set up for home theater auditioning throwing the majority of the sound towards the center.
I decided then that while open box deals are great with the way Polk revamps their line every year I'd rather wait and make sure I get New and not have to worry how much abuse the speakers have taken.
something to think about.Shawn

mount them on the wall. speakers stands aren't tall enough for rear surrounds. correct they should be about 3ft above your ears for best sound.
if you mount them on speakers stands.. i will personally come to your home and flog you for days.have a nice day!

Hey all,
I just swung by my local CC tonight and bought a brand new pair of FXi30's for $95 each, which is half of what they cost 6 months ago. They were the last pair available and I checked two stores. With these I can finally get rid of my old M3's. I'm using them on my back wall in my 7.1 setup. I'm using RTi28's on the side walls. I have them mounted about 6 feet high and I have tried both dipole mode and bipole mode. I love the dipole mode which produced a much more immersive sound then bipole mode. The seating area is right up on the back wall so that is why I'm using them on the back wall instead of sides. I'm highly enjoying these new babies. My 7.1 setup consists of:
Denon 3803
Panasonic DVD
RTi70s front
CSi40 front center
RTi28s side surround
FXi30s back surround
PSW202 Subwoofer - Hey, it's my first sub!
RCA 46" 4:3 RPTV -
Well, after watching Star Wars AOTC, Harry Potter COS, and various others, I've decided that movies that are encoded in DD EX actually sound better with the FXi30's configured as bipole rears. Those encoded only with DD 5.1 sound better with them configured as dipole rears. This is still a work in progress but that is my conclusion so far. This is using my Denon 3803 receiver with monopoles for the side surrounds and the FXi30's as rear surrounds. My 7.1 setup consists of:
Denon 3803
Panasonic DVD
RTi70s front
CSi40 front center
RTi28s side surround
FXi30s back surround
PSW202 Subwoofer - Hey, it's my first sub!

isn't it? buying speakers has become like buying computers/receivers/electronics. They get cheaper by the months!I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

i would also like a copy of the fxi30 receipt, what cc was that at?
thanks -
I just got a pair of fxi30s at CC for $76.00 ea. - They were going for $90.00 but he sold me the demos - they were the last pair at this store. I do not mind buying demos being they still have the 5 year warranty, and they sound great.

At CC we mark down open box speakers a ton in most circumstances. Also, ask if they are the displays for sale (the white sticker on the side will say OB instead of DP), or there are another set in the back.
Also, if you are getting a great deal on a set of OB speakers, consider getting City Advantage, it coveres performance so just take them home, crank them up, and if they are borked bring them back and you can get them swapped out.
I work in Entertainment, and I'm still deciding on what setup I want. I picked up an AVR 125, and even though I'm an infinity ****, I'm considering the RM7600s.. Or a set of LSi7s all around.. -
