Dying to catch a ball at the game?

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but my heart goes out to the family, especially the young boy who watched his Dad die right in front of him doing what Dads and sons have done for eons. He was a local fireman too :frown:.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Man-dies-after-falling-out-of-stands-at-Rangers-?urn=mlb-wp11900

But it worries me that the saftey **** will come out of the woodwork to make this an example for 'higher railings' or 'no catch zones in certain stands', maybe 'manditory safety helmets' for fans or some other nonsense ! Sports are just dangerous folks, for the players and the fans, you take a chance everyday in life.

My favorite motorsports are probably the worst, remember Le Mans 1955? 80+ killed in the stands in one horrific wreck.

Obviously, I have no information to come to conclusions or make a judgement, but I do question the care this man was given after the fall. The report says he was conscious and asking for someone to look after his son, so he was functioning properly as well. There must have been some sort of head trauma(bleeding in his brain) to cause his death. I wonder what the timeframe was between his fall and the time he arrived at the hospital. On the surface of it, something just does not seem right here.

God bless his family and especially his son.

Did some reading ... it appears he went into full cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He fell from the stands head first.

I saw a blip on TV that a player actually tossed the ball up to him, it wasn't a flyball, can anyone confirm that? Sad for the player too if it's true :frown:

    Edit:
I guess it was tossed, "He was trying to catch a ball flipped into the stands by Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton(notes) but apparently lost his balance and fell head-first in a space between the 14-foot outfield fence and the grandstand near the Oakland Athletics bullpen."

Yeah it's very sad. Last year a fan fell trying to catch a foul ball at the ball park but luckily survived.

Josh Hamilton has had personal problems in the past, and to have to deal with this must be devestating. Not just for Josh, but for Mr. Brown's family too.

It was Josh Hamilton who threw the ball up to the guy. He's been a class act to the Rangers since his arrival and a guy with a heart of gold. I hope he doesn't blame himself and my heart goes out to the dead fans family.

For what it's worth, you could have been a little more compassionate in the titling of your thread.

You are correct, I expressed my sympathies to all involved, it was pretty late when I posted it, I didn't mean to offend anyone, or disrespect. Sorry
