Party in a Truck

I live in Southern California where the weather is 90% summertime awesomeness year around. We spend Christmas at the beach, literally. Most of the time we like to pull right up on the beach where there is no electrical outlets to plug a system into. So it got me thinking, "Could I turn my truck into the ultimate mobile party solution?"

I need some advice. I was wondering if I should buy a small generator or a strong power inverter so that my truck isn't only good for lugging party supplies around, but providing a small portable sound system to get people on the dance floor (more like sand floor).

I was looking for something strong enough to power a mixer and two small powered speakers OR an integrated with high efficiency speakers. I'm thinking that a power inverter wouldn't be the best choice because it would drain my battery, but I do have a storage compartment in the back of my truck where I could store an Optima Yellow Top car battery (getting another battery is an option) if I wanted to. Or, maybe a small quiet generator would do the trick? So confused...

Just so you know. Inverters can be quite noisy.

That said here is a real good one for electronics: http://www.theinverterstore.com/the-inverter-store-product.php?model=pwric150012s

and most power inverters will induce all kinds of noise into your system.

I've always been curious about what it would take to install and be able to properly charge 10 X 12V batteries for clean 120V power in a vehicle.

your looking at 120 VDC, not the same animal as 120 VAC.

Get a Honda EU1000IS, 2000IS, or 3000IS generator. I just bought a EU3000IS and that thing is quiet @ 45-60db. The 1000 would power a small modest system up to about 800 watts with clean power. The 3000 is electric start, proly an overkill for a party at 140 lbs. Check with your local Honda car dealer.

I missed that. Good point, and I guess it would make no sense to convert it to A/C as that would probably introduce the same noise problems as upping 12VDC to 120AC.

What's the big deal? The party sound system is made to produce LOUD music, not reference/critical listening/"audiophile" stuff.

Have you thought about about using those SDA 2b's that you were so proud of a couple weeks ago that you now can't wait to sell?

I used to have a little 98' S-10 with an extended cab back when I was in school, it was the 'party truck'! I had a little Pioneer car amp, running two 8" truck boxes w/ tweets in it as well. I had enough wire so I could pull each speaker out and set them on the ground or the bed, worked great for me, you could unload and load them in a matter of seconds, if I had the need, I'd do that again.

I don't think you understand the amount of noise induced by inverters. It's not even a critical listening thing...anyone and their deaf mother could hear it and it's insanely annoying.

I've never had experience running a generator though.

exalted, what did you say I couldn't hear you over this buzzing and whining sound.

I vote upping the car stereo and adding a full range speaker box. you could throw that in the bed and bump the night away.
