    So do Casey's parents, Caylee's grandparents. I don't normally get to wrapped up in this type of hype, but it was an EPIC FAIL by either the jury or the prosecutor in this case.

    It's a shame...

    One of the guys I work with dated her in HS so we have been keeping up on it pretty close. When the verdict came down, his phone was blowing up with txt from people he grew up with talking about how crazy it is that she got off.

    She may have gotten off in the legal system, but she has to be the most hated person in the country right now... Not many places to hide when you have that honor.

    It seemed like a stretch to get a first degree murder convicition based on the lack of any "air tight" physical evidence. I figured it would come down to 2nd degree or manslaughter...especially since it was a capital case with the preponderence of evidence circumstantial. I never figured they would acquit. It may have been a case of the prosecutors jumping the gun.

    I agree - the same POS that accused the prosecution of "winning at all costs".

    My God, getting a proper and fair trial doesn't mean all decency is thrown out the window. The unsubstantiated accusations of molestation are unconscionable!

    Just talked to a defense attorney friend of mine. His point...she was not proven innocent...just not guilty beyond a resonable doubt BASED ON THE EVIDENCE presented. He says the prosecutors blew this one...should have offered to plead to a lesser charge with a long term...but probably caved in to pressure to go for the capital case due to perception. He felt they did not have enough hard evidence to go for the death penalty.

    I never thought she would be found guilty for murder, just wasn't the evidence to prove it (unfortunately), but I surely thought she would at least get some serious parental neglect or abuse charges and get good prison time for that...yet she only got slapped on the wrist for lying?!?!?! wow

    The only justice will be nobody would give her the time of day and look at her with nothing but disgust for years and years to come. Everytime she goes to a store, everytime she applies for a job. I just hope that she doesn't make a bunch of money with interviews and books (don't buy 'em people).

    I agree that 2nd degree murder would have been more fitting (in STRICT legal terms) given the terrible case presented by the prosecution, and mom & dads horrible failures during testimony, and lack of enough evidence. Personally, I'd like to see her hang.

    I've been the member of a jury on a murder trial. People are stupid, beyond belief. Luckily our bad guy was found guilty. It all falls apart with the "reasonable" in "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard. How ironic?

    What I was referring to was whether it was written for a layperson, or in legalese. I've seen examples both ways.

    I've always thought if someone went to trial for something and was found not guilty, then they had their due process, and should not still be considered guilty in the public eye. I mean the jury spent all the time listening and is presented with testimony and evidence the public is not privy to.
    If they deliberate and find the defendant not guilty then so be it.

    Although with this case it sure does seem like she got away with it.

    I just do not like how in todays day and age all you have to do is accuse someone of something and automatically they are branded as guilty by the public, even if they are found to be innocent.
    It sure does a lot of damage to those who are truly innocent and had to endure all that comes with such accusations.

    Then there is always the O.J.'s of the world, who will always be a murderer in my eyes. So it does get tough to choose one particular side to look at these things.

    As bobman points out, this happens every day. Been going on for thousands of years and will continue long after we are gone.

    Our justice system does not find people "innocent." It finds people "not guilty." There is a difference.
