Re Org occured and the team that I was in was dismantled, sunk underground....so I was moved to a diff team and not liking it.

Any reliable career firms out there and help you find a job or a contractor agency? Any pointers would be grateful.

Better yet, where's "3 sTars & Da SuN"? 'Cause if it's no where near New Jersey, my suggestions won't be of any help.

This would be my biggest concern, do you think it would be the appropriate time to do a company move at this point? Just food for thought, not sure how many years you have where you are at presently and sometime (though economic times) it is best to get a career/job downgrade for a while than starting fresh elsewhere as the last come is most likely the first to be booth out during crisis.

However, at times a career/job move is a necessity but cautious move are wise. Never ever move on emotional pulses but rather make sure everything is well calculated in order to minimize the chances of the being a downfall rather than an upgrade.

Like you, I find my self in a situation where the job is not as pleasing/satisfying as I would like it to be but I weigh the pros and cons of a move away from and for me, the proper time to move will be when I can find some assurance/security. Such situation can be a double sided blade; moving too fast on emotional pulses can be harmful while being stagnant and afraid will lead no where else but to an unsatisfactory life.

If you are serious about moving out of your present work, don't just look at opportunities that can get you out of there but rather do pre planning first meaning going over your (new) life priorities and desires so you can move toward the right directions/opportunities.

While I don't know of any jobs, I do know that a lot of companies have lost senior engineers due to retirement or lay offs. It might make sense to possibly do some consulting work for these folks. I'm sure there are a lot of companies out there that would consider some help on a special project or something they have been afraid to bid on since they might not have the expertise to engineer it.

Consulting work is mainly about contacts. Who you know and what they know you could do for them. It will also be about portfolio of the projects you have worked on. It's not an easy leap but possibly you could start looking at and developing while your still employed. Can you still consult and stay with your current company? Just till you see if this is what you want to do?

If your serious about your own company, now is the time to investigate start up costs and what would be needed. Start investigating now and lay the ground work for the future.

Might be worth connecting with some on Linked In. Good idea to update your profile on there and you can start adding some recruiters. Join some groups and follow some companies. Look at thier profiles to see what type of recommendations they have.
