Hello Everyone, its been a while.
So i just got hired as a geek at bestbuy and im looking at the products they offer. i will be getting a nice discount and im thinking about upgrading my gear.
I feel like my components are good but im not happy with the 2 10s, i feel like they struggle to dig deep.
Im debating going with an l7 12" and pushing 1k into it.
just wondering ur guys feelings on a l7 from a sound quality stand point. i know its loud and more geared towards spl.
any other recommendations from products they carry?

The 10" should hit the 20hz note easy. Where are you crossing your mids and sub?
-
Nothing wrong with Best Buy. They may not have the most knowledgeable sales people but they have very solid gear and you can catch some outstanding sales from time to time.
Im also a big fan of Kicker and the L7 line of subs is superb. Will pound your lungs out and sounds really good too. Highly recommended.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Thanks Mac!!! helps a lot!
Umm actually i have momo 6.5 comps in the doors and the 2 10s, do u have any suggestions for crossover points and slopes?
i think i have the sub crossed at 80ish and the mids at 60. cant check outside right now.2013 Toyota Prius

Cross both around 60 ish and put them on the steepest slopes you can get. The momo mid will play the 60-70hz note easy.

For pure sound quality, 80 is way too high. Thats the part of the spectrum that starts to become directional and just boomy. Id set them both at 63 Hz. Technically you should go lower like 50 and preferably 40 but we're not getting judged for a competition here and no matter what, a pair of subs will pound out 40-63 Hz better than even the best midbass drivers mounted in your doors and 40-63 is where all the punch is at.
As for slopes, 24 db/oct is always a good one. If youre getting too much sub, drop down to 30 on it. If your crossover wont do a slope that steep, just set it to its steepest slope.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

You should call Polk and see about an SR124. You might be able to get a deal on it being a forum member. They had a promotion going on for us polkies a few months ago, but it might have just been a short-term deal.
In all honesty, do you think the sr can hang with those?2013 Toyota Prius

Have you heard an SR? These aren't your run of the mill polk subs. They weigh in at ~25 lbs, are extremely smooth and musical, and can move a lot of air. You might be able to get a hell of a deal on an SR, save some serious cash, and get very comparable output to the JL's.
I didn't say anything before b/c I'm not too familiar with the L7. I have heard my share of JL subs, and I'm quite content with my SR104.
i really feel like my 2 10s dont hit hard. they have exact recommended wattage.
i dont want my music to be drowned out by bass, but i wana FEEL it.
I will say they dont have any trouble keeping up with double kick.2013 Toyota Prius

Chances are your sub is out of phase with the mids. 2 10's with about 800 watts should rock. Can you time align manually in your set up?
-
See, there are a few possible reasons why you feel the 2x10's don't put out enough bass.
1. The sub and mid bass is out of phase. Try flipping the phase on the sub if TA doesn't work.
2. The 80-200hz range is too hot.
3. The 2-7khz range is too hot.
4. Lack of balance between the 20-60hz and 60-300hz range. -
Thanks for the help - im going to do some tuning today - the (2) 10s have 300 each going into them, not 800.
I do have TA, but it goes by distance, which is set.2013 Toyota Prius

Slopes at 24 for speakers and subs.
Xover = 60hz on speakers
Xover= 70hz on sub
reversed the phase of the sub.
i 100% can tell a big difference.
I poped on Coldplay- Speed of Sound and my mids and my bass are hitting nice and tight, i can feel them a bit as well. i have them currently firing towards the back seat.2013 Toyota Prius

So i took my girlfriend out for a drive tonight and really LISTENED to the music. When i dropped her off we both put our heads back and just listened to Slightly Stoopid - Collie Man and were just blown away, my car has never sounded better.
The imaging is unreal. My tweeter location is definitely not its best, but when i asked her where it sounded like the music was coming from she point to the center of the dash. It truly sounded as if the band was playing for us.
On the way home from her house i put Steely Dan - Get back on and listened, once again, in just amazement.
Thank you guys for helping me make my system that much better.
now i just gotta decide if i wana keep the 10s or move to a single 12 or maybe 2.
Im very tempted to try glassing some boxes for the corners of the car as well.2013 Toyota Prius
