Off the top of me head, easily 8 mile.

Never dreamed i would like Him, a story about his horrible life, especially if he was in it.

Movie was pretty damn good, mathers actually seemed like an actor, and his life story compelling.

And now for something completely different, men in black, never dreamed i would like it, now i have to stop channel surfing if i come across certain scenes, and could probably watch it all the way through anytime.

Transformers. I thought that movie would be okay, but was very surprised I liked it as much as I did.

For me it was 'To Die For', I never cared for Nicole Kidman's acting, anyway it was on Starz this morning, I wasn't paying much attention, cleaning some stuff, then I heard some halarious unprintable lines, sat down, and I'll be damned if it wasn't one of the better flic's I'd seen recently, very dark, Kidman nailed the role, and looked mighty fine doin' it too

Traitor - absolutely awesome movie and never expected it to be.
August Rush - another movie I was so surprised how well I liked it.
Iron Man - this came out when we were getting saturated with Marvel Comic superheroes, but was surprisingly enjoyable and carried its own weight above many others, very enjoyable IMO.

Though some of you might question my sexual orientation after this one:wink:, a movie that comes to mind is brokeback mountain. When it came out I had no interest to see it whatsoever and probably never would have, but then I had to watch it for a film class. While some scenes are a little too explicit for my liking, the actual story is engrossing and sad. I recommend they make a PG-13 version:wink:

Another one would be lord of the rings. I have never been into the magic/wizard kind of movies (most of my favorite movies all have realistic tones), so when I sat down to watch the fellowship of the ring, I had zero expectations... By the end though, I was so engrossed into it I had to watch it again. And though the next two didn't grab me as much as the fellowship of the ring did, its still my favorite trilogy.

Fantastic job by all (Queen Latifa, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, John C. Riley, Christine Baranski & Catherine Zeta-Jones).

I have 2 copies of the SACD of the music soundtrack & it is fantastic.

I would have to say the original "Cars" released in 2006. The gal I was dating at the time really wanted to see it. I had zero interest in seeing it as it was an animated movie but went anyway. I remember walking into the theater thinking "WTF am I doing here for a kids movie".

Had the totally wrong impression of a modern animated movie. I was totally impressed and thought enough of it that I bought my parents tickets to see it. I knew that I'd never get my dad to a theater to see it so by supplying the tickets he had no choice as my mother would make him go.

He had the same thoughts I did going into it, and was also very surprised at how well it was done.

Now and days I find most of the animated movies to be more entertaining than traditional movies. Being a bit of a geek I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into them.

The girl that plays with fire series, Dragon Tatoo, The girl that kicked the hornets nest. Euro films w/subtitles and I absolutely loved them. I was totally skeptical for about 10 minutes then forced myself to watch one at a time.

I don't think it would be the most surprising for me ever, but most recent was The A-Team movie. I expected it to be a total ****, but I ended up quite entertained by it. Nice homage to the original series.

Suprise dislike: Remake of True Grit. Heard nothing but good things from people that saw it. I wanted my time back after watching it. I especially hated the "extra" bit they tacked on at the end. Just made a bad remake even worse. Fortunately, I was redeemed as the original happened to be on cable just as I finished watching the remake. So, Pro Tip: Never try to remake a perfect movie. You will fail.

Surprise like: The Kids Are All Right. Caught it on cable last night. Completely character driven plot, and it's rare that I like those because script writers usually comes up with such bad characters, which are then poorly acted.

Considering the awards it was nominated for, and the way it was received, I'd say your opinion failed, not the movie.

I thought Bolt sucked. I wanted to like it, but couldn't get into it. Was hoping for another Ratatouille, or Toy Story, but, nope, not even close.
