Recently I purchased a Samsung 60" 3-d tv. My question is I have read that you may need a 3-d receiver. I am using an Anthem avm 50 and I am concerned regarding the capabilities with 3-d. Thanks Doug

You'd probably need to run HDMI straight to the TV from the 3d source and then connect up the audio separately (analog or spdif). Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you need both the receiver and the tv to be 3d capable.

Correct run HDMI 1.4 from 3-D bluray, cable box, etc..then optical out of HDTV to receiver for audio

HDTV has to be 3-D compatible

Your going to lose Hi Res audio over optical. May as well cough up the money and buy the HDMI receiver and enjoy it to the max.

Another option is to purchase a BDP that got 2 HDMI outputs such as the Oppo BDP-93 or BDP-95. You connect one HDMI straight to the 3D TV and set it to video only (in the BDP menu), then the other one to the receiver for lossless audio. That's what I'm doing right now.

I thank you all for your advise. I guess first off I will look into a 3-d blueray. Bestbuy suggested samsung their unit of course. I will shop around and compare. My main concern was my Athem processor. That is hard to replace. Thanks again. Doug

There are plenty enough of those BDP's with 2 HDMI outputs out there. Go to: http://www.blu-ray.com/players/search.php, in the General section choose Bluray 3D = yes, then specify 2 HDMI under the Connection section and hit Search. Any on that list will let you keep your current receiver.

Hey thanks again for your reply. I have it hooked up as you said. I have to say the picture is stunning. The bdp 93 is awesome. Was able to watch the ocean scenes in 3-d and could not believe it. One question about 1080 p. We have tried and tried but direct tv is coming in 1080i. I even called direct tv on that. I bought a Samsung 1080p 3-d with that in mind. Any opinions on that. After you answered my first question on the bdp I contacted Anthem for their opinion and they said hook it up as you said. You were right on.
They also told me a new line of 3-d receivers by Anthem are coming out, they look sharp. I may unload my Avm 50 to go completely 3-d, will see.
I am sorry to trouble, but I expect all to work 100%. The 1080p has me stumped.
    Thanks again,Doug

Glad you like the Oppo  Most DirecTV channels are 1080i. Take a look at this thread, especially Demiurge's posts: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117577

Read the thread and I will question that with direct tv. I know they tell you one thing and get the other. Was not sure about dtv. Gave up cable after a long run and I have to say for picture quality dtv is great. I have to say also the Samsung 60 480 hz Led is light years better than my Panasonic. Alot cooler also In Florida. I was dying with that plasma. All in all it was worth it.
