Just got a new receiver.. it's a little better than I hoped for )).. Integra 70.1..
Since Monitors are a steal now, I'll be getting 50-s as surrounds , CS2 and 30s or 40s for front high..Sub can be bought locally at Craigslist - I'm debating PSW 110, 200 or 505 .. Now, the front towers..I don't see myself buying an amp in the near future , so the receiver is all I am going to have powerwise.. Will it be able to push 70-s hard enough to produce good sound without bi-amping? Or should I go 60-s route to get a clear sound? I don't really have much time for contemplating - just got married and have to buy everything this week before she comes back from her parents. ( She knows that I have some kind of audio equipment, but fortunately, has no clue what it is..SHE MUST NOT SEE THE BOXES COMING ! ) If I don't buy it now, I 'm never gonna have it. And how can I live with that?
Thanks guys.

Just go ahead and buy them. You're going to have to get the mother-in-law's approval anyway. Enjoy them while they let you.

I'm buying something for sure.. I'd rather face the music later but HAVE them.. The question for me was whether the receiver itself is enough to power them.. esp if I use all 9 channels..I'm not sure I will, but..just in case..

I'd go ahead and get the 70's. You could always get a separate amp to drive the fronts.

Not a good start for a trusting relationship. You don't have to be PW but you should be honest, just my opinion. Hope everything works out for you.

Not really.. I might have exaggerated things a little )).. I don't have any toys left after my FUN car was stolen, so she knows that I should have something..The money isn't exactly coming out of a family budget, I made it on the side in my spare time instead of pressing the couch with my butt in front of a TV.. So I earned it..I just don't want to shock her with all that equipment bought at once..Of course, she will notice it.. but.. gradually ))

After you explain to her how much she has spent on her shoes, I believe this issue of where your hard earned "extra" money goes should not be an issue. She's got her priorities, you have yours.

Sorry to hear about the car. That sucks.

The biggest difference everyone can enjoy the speakers...hope your not enjoying her shoes, unless she's wearing them:wink:

Reading the OP brought a smile to my face, been in the same boat myself. Buy what you want, she may not like it but after a while it won't matter, there will be other things to bicker over. Cheers.

Same thing I told my neighbor when he was looking at buying a motorcycle. In the end he took my advice and bought one..when his wife was still under the impression he was just "thinking" about it.

To the OP.. Get everything setup, toss in some music she likes and you stand a good chance she won't mind after hearing how good everything sounds.

The wife and I each get our own spending money each week that the other one can't say anything about regarding how they spend it. Works great and I have purchased pretty much my whole setup this way. She never bothers me about what I want to buy, because it's all budgeted in. I get my toys, and I don't have to argue or sneak around to get em!
    Main Setup
    Fronts - Energy RC-50's
    Center - Energy RC-LCR
    Rear - Energy RC-R's
    Subs - Gone...
    AVR - Pioneer SC-37
    Blu-Ray - Sony BDP-S360
    TV - Vizio E550I-B2
    Media Server - Mac Mini
