Not only is Gabriel one of the great singer/composers of our time...he puts on a helluva show. He has always used a bit of theatric in his shows. In this one there is no pyro...no lasers...just a great performance. It's 7+ minutes...watch it all.

Who says there wasn't great music from the 80s...

A decade later he is still putting on great live performances. "Don't Give Up" from the Secret World tour. Granted...this isn't with Kate Bush :frown:...but Paula Cole ain't too shabby...in fact she is damn good!

Yep, Gabriel knows what music is about! Secret World Live is phenominal! I love the "Come Talk To Me" intro with the telephone booth. He puts on great stage shows. He ain't too shabby at doing music videos either.

Steve, if you know that song (In your eyes), then you must have watched the movie with John Cusack "Say Anything"?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Nope...never watched the whole movie...I did see the ending where Cusack was playing the song on the boombox.

    Great video!

Arguments about the prominence of Gabriel's theatrics is actually what caused him to leave Genesis in 1975. There was always a rift between Gabriel's amazing ability to perform and Collins, Rutherford and Banks feeling it was overshadowing the music. I've seen Genesis perform about 20 times since 1971 and Collins and Gabriel solo a few times, and even made it backstage a few times in the early days.

Gabriel is an amazing talent and the early Genesis masterpieces find their way onto my turntables at least once a week.

I've seen Gabriel with Genesis (Lamb Lies Down), and on every subsequent tour. On Wed, I just saw him with his New Blood Orchestra, and I must say that it may very well have been the best show I've ever seen. I ran the gamut of emotions. I laughed giddly, had shivers, and in a couple of spots even tears.
The man is a master performer and able to wrench whatever idea or emotion he is trying to convey out of his music most effectively.

Great videos. I've always been a Peter Grabriel fan since the first time I heard Solsbury hill. I would love to see him in concert.

On March 24th, 1974 Genesis was doing Selling England by the Pound at Winterland in SF. It was my wedding day and I tried to convince my wife that we should skip down from the hotel to catch the show, she convinced me otherwise. I always resented her for that . The next year, they came back with Lamb and we did catch the show. I believe this show may have been the best I've ever seen and heard (could have been the night), but shortly after found out the PG was leaving Genesis. I was still a big Genesis fan, but I'll never forget that brief glimpse of Gabriel as a young man at the top of his form. His singing, dancing and theatrical ability constantly made you wonder if what you were seeing was what you were seeing and struck deep archetypes of the soul with the images he created. I've seen him a few times since...there were moments, but those last 2 Genesis tours were magical.

As a side note, Rutherford's bass pedals on a lot of Genesis cuts have always been a great way to see if your SDA's really can get down under 20Hz

Has anyone seen the "New Blood" blu-ray from Gabriel? It came out a few weeks ago, but have not heard any reviews about it.

I have not seen the actual disc...but I'm not sure I'm sold on the orchestra concept.

Yeah, I agree. It takes a certain kind of song style to be able to add an orchestra to it. MOST Peter Gabriel songs don't qualify (IMO). Certainly "Red Rain" does not.
