Looks like Polk just updated their site to show the new Vanishing series 3-way ceiling speakers. Been waiting for these for quite a while now.

Hopefully with their new design which supposedly significantly improves bass, we can forego subs

Out of both series, only one has a lower -3dB limit of 40Hz, the rest are higher. You will still need a sub.

F1Nut - Of course but the enclosure really improves the impact and weight of the bulk of mid-bass and bass response when it comes to musical media. For movies, you will need to augment it. Think about how good the demo was that you heard years ago for the first round of really good in-walls when they stepped up the tech....WITH entire wall enclosure. This is a smaller solution with almost the same impact.

subs are so good and great sounding small versions are out there , I cant see ever not using them . What about the inwall subs ?
if I ever heard a bookshelf speaker start at 20 hz it would be one of the most amazing things in my lifetime .

It's possible, but due to Hoffman's Iron Law, the speaker would be grossly inefficient.

I think the tuned cabinet on the lsim sounds tons better than the 900 ls , but thats just me everbodys ears are differant .
I would read reviews look at specs (freq response & effeciancy & cost) plus do you really want to put holes in the wall .
Can you mount a lsim easily , will wifey kill you unless its hidden ?
all major concerns that if not evaluated could result in buying twice and mounting twice (maybe drywall and paint to ) .

Actually I already have a set of ceiling speakers in the living room (which is also the dining room and kitchen) (TC80i) which is where i've found out that i end up doing most of my listening. Curious as to how big an improvement the new models are.

Yeah, I'd take a pair of bookends that don't hit as low but offer a better transition anyday. Why you'd want a 20hz bookend is beyond me as the magic in them is their size and cleaner freq response. To each his own I guess.
