What would happen if you hook-up four 50 watt 4ohm (100 watts max) speakers to an amp that puts out 100 watts per channel (at 8 ohms)?

So what I should really do is wire two 4 ohm speakers in series to +/- of one channel and another pair of 4 ohm speakers in series to the +/- of the other channel.

That would make the amp see them two pairs as 8 ohms.

    Correct?

Yes , running a pair of 4 ohm in series will give you 8 ohms , thats one side of the amp .
On the other side just copy the setup .
