Receiver comparison

Hi.....it's your site token female damsel in distress again seeking all wise counsel and guidance. Jesse suggested I post my question to the forum, so here goes......
I'm continuing my search for a receiver to connect to my SDA SRS 2's I just bought. I thought I found a good deal on a "new" Sunfire Ultimate that is currently for sale on Audioweb for a mere $1950 bucks. Seemed almost too good to be true, and I now believe the guy is a scammer. More than ready to sell me the unit till I started asking for serial numbers and wanting to go through a 3rd party escrow. All of a sudden he stopped replying to my messages.
In the meantime, there is a store going out of business in a big shoppng mall near me, and they have a Denon 5803 for sale for $2277 incl tax.
Any suggestions on which receiver to go for....Sunfire or Denon? Other receivers are not out of the question....just looking for good quality at a good price. The store also has a Harmon Kardon AVR8000 for sale.
If anyone knows of someone selling a good receiver, I'm interested.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

ldc,
You're sure you want to go AVR? You've only mentioned the 2's, are you building an HT? Also are separates an option?More later,

ME? Being a big fan of Brother Bob Carver, I'd opt for the Sunfire. The Denon is a fine receiver as well, but, like I said, I like the Carver sound and you will not find a more powerful receiver and it has all the bells and whistles.
Personally, I'd go out and check them both out and buy the one YOU think is best.

I'm OK with separates too. It's hard enuf trying to make my way through the maze of receivers (one piece of equipment) let alone trying to figure out separates. Any and all suggestions/recommendations appreciated.
Right now I'm just looking to be able to listen to my CD's on this system, but I'm OK with going with HT. I have an older model THX system that I watch movies on, so I'm not hard over on having a HT system downstairs.
Thanks everyone for your inputs!

Really need a budget here. Also are you open to used equipment? Then can fully develop an approach.
But if 2 ch is your short term goal, I can't see laying out big bucks for any 5 or 7 ch AVR right now. A nice 2 ch pre with a 2 to 5 ch power amp will do nicely for now. And the amp will potentially have a place in the future.More later,

I think the added bonus of 2 channel separates is that they are MUCH simpler to use than a full blown AV receiver. For the kind of coin that you are considering, I'd consider an AV preamp and start off with a 2ch amp and maybe add amps as you incorporate HT.
Me personally, I'd use the SDA's as strictly 2ch though.

Reason I was urging a 2 ch pre and 2 or more channel power amp as a first move is the cost and longevity. But a good AVP now and it might be out of date before she goes HT. But an extra couple of channels and those SDA's can be bi-amped for now...
LMC,
Take a look at this auction...

Normally a mint 500t would go for $300 to 350 alone. I doubt the added pieces will drive it much higher. Could be a good value even as high as $450...
I've got a low "watch" bid in, but only in case it goes low and I can snipe it for resale later at a profit. If you decide to go for it waive me off...
