Realistic sta2000

So my dad found a realistic sta2000 in good shape with one blub out in the front at a local pawn shop for about 40 bucks. It works, wood is good condition on the sides, and only missing a switch end that could prob could find somewhere.
I know they used to be a radio shack thing back in the day and ran about 500 bucks. Anything i should watch out on them and is 40 a good price on one? I would think it seems reasonable but if they are walking time bombs I want to know about it.
Also what vintage cdp and speakers would mate well with this? I know my dad wants to buy it more for himself as he has an old turn table he wants to break out so I may try and help him with the speakers if I can find something. He was talking about getting it for me but I know he wants it more for himself lol he's got an old pioneer right now but needs some work.

See if you can find some Realistic Mach One's on ebay and keep it in the RS family.
I believe the STA2000 was made by Pioneer.SDA SRS 1.2

Sony DVP-NS999ES -
I forgot my dad does like a warmer sound. His old speakers were some large pioneers and I know we had advents once upon a time when I was little.
-
The old Realistic stuff I also think was made by Pioneer.
I don't remember that particular one but do remember ones like it. They had that warm 80's tone.
Find him some Advent Heritage speakers or better yet, some ADS speakers and make his day. -

Very tubby sound; hook this up to a pair of Mach Ones and be swallowed in the mire. Four-gang FM tuner with 3 ceramic filters. Needs an alignment to perform at its best, responds well to mods, though don't expect sensitivity much better than 1.5-2 ?V. Better than the STA-2000D that replaced it.

Here is the catalog for that year's receiver....might be of some help? Or not?

it does look like a pioneer but they asked ?870$? wow .
I am sure a collector will eat it up , I see some older pioneer receivers going for $200 on ebay ! -
The STA-2100D is the holy grail of Realistic receivers. I don't think they were made by Pioneer. I had one here for a short while many years ago. It had a large toroidal transformer which I though unique for that vintage. It weighed a ton, and I sold and shipped it to some goon in Montana, who never even sent a note to say he received it. He got it at a very fair price also if memory serves. In your $200 area.

Made most likely by either Foster (Fostex) or Automatic Radio for R/S (Tandy Corp., in those days). Decent but overpriced when new; probably not a bad deal today as the "Realistic" brand doesn't have quite the cachet of some.

And neither do you. -
My recollection of Radio Shack equipment is that the catalog price or in-store price was always well above what it should have been, so that when the stuff inevitably went on sale at half-price, it was "Realistic".

I hate that !
you spend the time to place a add the extra time to pack it safely and the buyer doesnt have the courtesy to let you know he received it , or shipping damage , or if they like it , its just courtesy .. -
