No subwoofer sound PSW10 with Pioneer SX-218-K

I just hooked up my Polk PSW10 subwoofer with my SX-218-K Pioneer receiver. The receiver only has wiring hook ups so I had to use option 2 and hook the sub to the front speakers and then to the receiver. I have sound from all the speakers but not from the sub. There is no option on the receiver to turn the speakers settings to small that I can find, only to change the decibel level. I have 16 gauge wire, all hooked up with pos to pos, neg to neg. Is there anyone that knows what to do? I greatly appreciate it--I don't want this sub to go to waste! I also put the receiver on pro logic setting and manually tried all speakers one at a time but there is no sound at all from the sub. Thank you!!!!

    Hey Wick,

I have to ask the obvious questions. Is the PSW10 plugged in? Turned on? Green light on? Volume turned up on the PSW10 back panel?

I am not sure if I read your hook up description right, but the connections should be from the receiver front left and right speaker output to the speaker level inputs on the PSW10. Then the front left and right speakers are connected to the speaker level outputs on the PSW10. Thus the signal is passed through the PSW10 to the fronts and the correct crossover is applied by the PSW10.

    Good Luck,

    Jim

I appreciate your help---I have the green light on and I have all the wires connected as you state, but still no sound, it is very frustrating.

Are you sure there is no LFE or subwoofer output on the AVR? I found the operating manual here: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ephox/StaticFiles/PUSA/Files/XRE3196A.pdf
and copied the following from the troubleshooting section:

    No sound from subwoofer.
    • The Dolby Digital or DTS source you are listening to may not have an LFE channel.
    • Switch the LFE Attenuator Setup to LFEATT 0 or LFEATT 10.

    Hope this helps.

    Jim

PS: It's odd that the guide has no back panel illustration.

They don't include the SP SET option in the SP SETUP part of the Setup menu for that receiver? That's exactly what's necessary to specify the Front, Center, Surround, and Subwoofer settings beyond using the Quick Setup.

If Front is set to Small then Center and Surround get locked into Small setting and Subwoofer is locked at Yes. That's NOT what you want for the PSW10. You want Front set to Large, and the Subwoofer setting set to No, then do the connection from the receiver front speaker output to the subwoofer speaker input and then subwoofer speaker output to the speakers.

So if they do include the SP SETUP option, do this:

    1. Press Setup.
    2. Select SP SETUP if needed, then press Enter.
    3. Select SP SET if needed, then press Enter.
    4. Select Front = Large, then press Enter.
    5. Select Center = Small (other options when Front is set to Large include Large and No).
    6. Select Surround = Small (other options when Front is set to Large include Large and No).
    7. Select Subwoofer = No, specifically for the speaker level connection to the PSW10. (For other subwoofers that support Sub/LFE out, this will be set to Yes or Plus.)
    8. Press Setup to lock in the settings.

Otherwise, if they didn't include that option, the best suggestion I can offer is to run Quick Setup again. If one of the questions in Quick Setup asks about the Subwoofer, select No. Answering No should force the Front speakers to Large. Failing that, also try selecting the Large room setting. If that still doesn't work, this receiver may not work properly with the PSW10.
