What to do about GFA-2535 damaged in shipping?

Yesterday I received an Adcom GFA-2535 that I won on eBay. The seller charged $40 for shipping on top of a ~$120 sale price, and I foolishly thought that that would include proper packing. Instead, the unit was packed in crumpled newspaper, inside a single re-used flimsy cardboard box, and shipped USPS for $20. Unsurprisingly, one set of speaker binding posts are severely damaged (bent over, plastic cracked, sheet metal on back of amp distorted).
I'm expecting that the seller will claim it's not their fault and I'll never get any compensation. I'm hoping, though, that since my other Adcom vintage gear is all built like tanks I can open up the case, remove the damaged posts, bend the sheet metal back into flatness, and install replacement binding posts.
Anyone have any advice about do's, don'ts, or other recommendations on how to proceed? Think it's worth asking the seller to reimburse me some portion of the sale cost since I ended up with damaged goods?

That is Imho inexcuseable to ship like that. I would figure cost of repair and contact him amd request reinbursement ( nicely). But ley him know ( if not) you will slam him on ebay. File with ebay but i never buy without haveing a detailed conversation reguarding packing and the like.my rule is always speak with personally (on phone, buying or selling) with everyone ) i do busniess with. Both to be assured and to assure such things dont happen. Also if he banged you on shipping i would bring tjat up as well, if he dosent care about him reputation oh well. But it sounds like it can be repaired but take a close look at thr pcb's to make sure the monkeys didnt do other damage!. Thats why i dont but there and do but here!Main Rig:

I'm very sorry to hear about what happened. I have dealt with this type of thing before and yes take lots of pictures and contact the seller in a polite manner before going to eBay. If he works with u then everything's good but if not then at least you have pictures and a try to resolve on your end to approach eBay with and let them go after the seller and help get you your money refunded. Perhaps post the name of the seller here so the rest of us can keep an eye out?“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
