I need some input. I had a bid on Ebay for a Parasound 1100 Dac at $300 which I thought was enough to win it. My thought was to get it to play around with and upgrade it. The thing sold for about $380. Are these things THAT desirable ? I was attempting to buy it based on what I had read. Any thoughts here ?

There is a pretty loyal following on the Parasounds.
People that have them love them.
I haven't had the chance to try one myself."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
The Parasound DAC's seem to have a cult following and there are several popular mods for them. I've only had the chance to audition one, and I can't remember which one, but it had a very smooth analog type sound. I've bid on a couple and they've always went for more than I wanted to pay.DKG999

I own a Parasound 1550 DAC and it has produced the best sounding digital conversion of anything I have tried in my rig to date.....hands down.
The best description I can think of is "velvet". Everything comes out sounding smooth and natural. Minus the digital "edge" of most everything else I have tried and there are many.
This unit propelled me to look deeper into Parasound equipment and lead eventually to the purchase of a C-2 pre. The C-2 sounds phenomenal, but as far as conversion goes the leader for my setup is still the 1550.
Is the 1100 worth $300.....hard to say imho.Parasound C1, T3, HCA-3500, HCA-2205A, P/DD1550, Pioneer DV-79avi, Oppo BDP-83, WD Media Server W/HDD,

Interesting, thanks for the input. Makes me really curious to try and land one now.

I wouldn't spend over $300 for an 1100. I don't think DAC's are Parasound's strong suit but they're ok. They're pretty much the same as Adcom from this time frame.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Noted. Like I was saying I never thought the unit I bid on would get to 3 bills.
