Anyone make an omni towers that are under $1000, or better yet under $500? There seems to be no "major" maker of anything like this. Any ideas? Are there even any bookshelfs besides Mirage?

Mirage is the first speaker brand that comes to mind, but I don't know enough to know whether some of their speakers are truly "omindirectional" or not.Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I second mirage. If you want a huge sweet spot, they're who i'd go with.Main Surround -

These don't sound bad. http://www.mbl-usa.com/View.aspx/2101/mbl-101---MK-II"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Ohm still makes some of the Walsh speakers (not the real, full-range driver Walshes, but inverted cone top-mount woofers making up omnidirectional two-ways). These are fine sounding speakers (I have a pair of older Walsh Twos - I think - and they're very good). Not sure of the current prices, peruse their website.

That's interesting. I used to have a girlfriend that had a set of the older Ohms. They were 'nice' speakers.
Know almost nothing about their products today, though?

It's nice to see some speakers that are still made in the US. They appear to be located right outside the Brooklyn Navy yard too."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Ohms are fantastic speakers. super clear, and seem to give a sense of stereo sound from nearly anywhere in the room. Highly recommended. For 1k you can gt a set of walsh a's or possibly f's. For around a grand you could also pick up a pair of walsh 2's and send em in to Ohm for the super walsh upgrade.design is where science and art break even.

I had the Walsh 2's myself. Awsome sound.
I can only imagine what the bigger ones sound like..:biggrin:Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I would also vote Ohm Walsh. They are very good Omni's...

+1 on the Ohm's. Keep your eyes on craigslist, they pop up pretty frequently, usually cheap.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Depending on where you are; I have two audio buddies here in Texas with omni's for sale. One with a pair of Mirage OM-7's (which were $2k new) and another friend with a pair of the flagship Ohm Walsh 5's (series II, I think). These were about $5 or $6K new. Both are in very nice condition. PM or email me if interested. Both speakers are in the San Antonio area.
