Plugging in hi-current Amp

I have two choices plugging in my amp. I either can plug it directly into the wall outlet or my APC H15 surge/power conditioner. What would be most beneficial? Thanks.

I would plug it into the H15 for the protection and the basic noise filtering. Some feel that surge protectors "limit" amp performance but I haven't seen any tests that confirm that with higher-end protectors like the H15. Quite possibly true with the el cheapo variety.

I'm sure other members have the H15 or similar and will comment.

I plugged my Parasound Halo A51 straight to the wall outlet because its user manual suggested so. My sources & TV were plugged into my APC S15.

This is a tough question. APC gear is extremely well designed for the price, and I feel always feel better plugging my amps into the protected power. I do believe bass may be improved going direct to the wall (use a premium outlet), but only at the highest listening levels.

What is the deal w/ 'premium' outlets? What's the advantage there?

Perhaps the single biggest advantage is that they tenaciously grip the power cord's plug. Beyond that the craftsmanship and materials used are very, very good. I have a couple of cryoed PSAudio Power Port Premiers that made a startling difference when installed; the noise floor dropped dramatically. There are some threads around here posted by DK with some nice scope traces and text to explain even more.

If you are a skeptic, probably the advantage is the vendor makes more profit on a $100 outlet versus a 99 cent outlet .

As an intermediate step, pepster has some good outlets that he sells to Polkies at a price you can't pass up.
