So today the boss comes in and says he's having handshake issues with his Onkyo 606 and his Comcast cable box - so he went out and bought something new.

What to do with the old receiver...give it to me of course!

So now I'm gonna pass this along to my father in law who is currently using some no name 5-disc dvd all-in-one deal to run his audio.

I rebuilt the crossovers, bracing, and added some damping material to some nice speakers him for his birthday last year so this will be another great addition! Just thought I'd post it up here because I know all of you guys love sharing the joy of good sound with others as much as I do.

Next up, get the old man a new subwoofer.

    Thats friggin RAD!

I finally convinced my Mom to go in with me and my sister & brother and do the same for my Dad this year for a joint Birthday/Christmas gift. He's got no real need for anything big as long as it does HDMI for his LCD.

We are thinking the Onkyo 308. Then because I am a good son I plan to offer him my Monitor 40's and CS2 at no cost as well.

Because I am even more of an awesomer son, I talked my mom into rearranging what is now the "formal" living room (which has the 42" LCD in it) to allow for proper setup of the fronts.

Right now he's running a HTIAB he got forever and a day ago. The amp for everything is in the sub, and he's got one digital spdif connection...if he wants to go from DVD player to Xbox on sound he has to pull the cable (which is located behind the TV stand of course) and plug in the other one lol...

Sounds similar to the rig my father in-law is working with.

My brother in law (a carpenter) made a nice AV stand that can hold everything with plenty of width to accommodate his 42" lcd and the bookshelf speakers on either side. So naturally I had to go hunting for some gear to fill it up. The bookshelf speakers looks and sounds great, just didn't have proper receiver to run 'em. There are no digital connections on the HTIAB so running everything via HDMI and optical is gonna be sweet!

Can't wait to get over there and get it all set up and calibrated. He's gonna love it.

Ender, you mentioned the Onkyo 308; believe you meant the 309 as, IIRC, the older 308 didn't/doesn't do HDMI.

309 is about $190 shipped from Newegg.

In any event, please be advised that I am available for surrogate father/father-in-law duty as needed.

You guys are too nice.:smile:

LOL...yeah thats the one. The 200ish AVR's are what we are looking at. He's got a Yamaha already but I personally like the Onkyo's better for the EQ..
