it took me years to find a nice sounding sub location , I have halls open areas that lead to kitchen etc , I actually had the sub cancelling itself , I finally placing the sub in the far cornor with the tv in front of it and the mains on each side to sound the very best , the sofa is like inline withthe hall but the bass amplifies going down the hall so sitting there nothing is missed , I bet the sub does not do my TV any good (vibrations) but I cant do a lot untill I get a lcd or plasma ( I got this big ole 52" backscreen proj type ) .
PS: with a sub in the cornor you get a ?18db? gain thats like adding 2 more subs .

Yeah do not be afraid to move it around. another idea is to place the sub in a central location then move yourself around the room listening in different spots. You can often find a sweet spot this way.

I usually have my drivers up front so-as close to the ground on my last sub I had the drivers facing up 30" off the ground , well it still shakes the room .
I now have a problem with a window close by , I dont know if the up facing sub makes it worse , as much as I would like to fill the window in I dont think the landlord would appreciate it :)
I have tried all kinds of things to quiet it from foam to dynamat , any sugestions ???????????????????

Ever heard of 'crawling for bass?' Put the sub in the location you usually sit, (move your sofa or chair if you need to) crank up some bass heavy source material, and crawl on the floor until you find a spot where the bass is strongest. Put your sub there.

No, I'm not kidding. Before Audyssey and spectrum analyzers that's how we did it. I had a custom built subwoofer to reinforce the bass for my Dalquist DQ-10's in the 80's, and that's how I set it up.

Before? I do it, even now! You have to do the crawl, placement with all speakers is very important.

It is not just the strongest place though right? You also want tune fullness. Not just max boom factor.

Yeah that works. I have a really weird room and I am still moving it around. I will find a good spot, set things up and then I hear a rattle or a resonance I did not hear before. Sigh. I want to use dynamat as wallpaper at this point.
