I'm thinking about buying an Odyssey Stratos amp to drive my Klipsch RF7IIs. Has anyone heard Odyssey and Klipsch together? I'll probably mate the Stratos with a new tube pre eventually. Any thoughts?

My thought originally. However many R7II owners seem to believe they respond to high power. I've tried mine with an Adcom 555II which is 200wpc and with a couple of chip amps and a tube pre. I like the ss better which surprised me.

I also have been demoing SS amps with my Klipsch speakers and have been like certain aspects of it. Tubes are great with Klipsch, but I'm narrowing in on SS amps that seem to offer the best of both worlds without any of the hassle that come with tubes.

A winner in the MidFi category so far is my upgraded KingRex T20U+PSU integrated amp. At 20wpc, it plays very well with the horns by not sounding shrill or grainy. It does not have the resolution of other amplifiers, but has good musicality and it just fun to listen to.

I'm currently chatting with a local guy about a class A single ended, dual gain stage, SS amp that could be a winner. It uses only a pair of MOSFETs, one for each gain stage for an out put of 20wpc and 134 degrees.

I'll let you know how the SS class A topology goes with the horns, but it looks like I'm heading that direction. The Stratos could be good, but they are class AB, so I'm not sure I would buy them without a demo.

I just don't think the Stratos is a very warm sounding amp.

I've looked at those. They are out of my current price range. I'm also interested in the Bada Purer 3.3se. Pacific Valve and Electric carry them.

Also, H, I was thinking about pairing one of your Dared pres with the Odyssey. Seems like it might be a nice combination.

I can't imagine listening to high power SS amp on 101dB/1W efficient horns in my house. For a PA system, outside maybe, but at 60WPC or so you are at around 120dB in an average size room. Sounds painful to me.

On any Klipsch speaker, you don't need more than a watt......

I have had Cornwalls, KG4s, CF3s and RF7s. I have run all of them with tube, solid state and chip amps. Some combinations worked others not so much. Interesting feedback and about what I expected. Good to hear never the less.
