Room size affecting speaker choice.

Just joined the community.. I am beginning to build my HT.. The receiver will be either Onkyo 1007, or Onkyo 3007 ( plenty of power ).. These 2009 models are a lot cheaper than the newer ones and since I care only about audio performance it seems like a logical choice. Now the speakers.. I've heard a few great powerful speakers that sounded totally lousy in small rooms because they just couldn't open up.. My room is 240 sq feet ..at least for next few years, until I buy a house. The use - 60% movies, 40% music. Will Monitor 70s be an overkill ? Will I be better off with 60s ?
Also, I hate speaker stands and wires on the walls ( yes, there are flat cables , that can be glued to the wall and then you will have to find a matching paint .. but I just don't want to go through all this hassle , especially if I have to move).. So, what I was thinking is.. getting Monitor 50-s for surrounds. I already bought a pair of R300 for 99.99 shipped from Newegg , which I plan to use in the kitchen as Zone 2. It's just a kitchen, so the sound quality doesn't have to be superb..However, I do care about it in the livingroom. How would 50-s work as surrounds in that particular room? I listen to music at moderate volume levels.. Thank you so much.

Just estimating but sounds like you have a room approx 14x16 so 240 sq foot would work fine with m70's

I wish I had a room that big.

Mine is 11x12. I have a 57" RPTV, 4 LSi15s, 1 PSW1000, 1 PSB Synchrony One Center, a coffee table, a recliner, 2 bookcases for DVDs, and an equipment rack. I would buy the best speaker I can afford, and not let the room size affect my decision (within reason).
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

Size DOES matter.. Like I said before, powerful speakers sound like crap in small rooms, no matter how good/expensive they are.. They need space. That is my main concern with M70-s.. I wonder if they are too big for my room..

Actually, that's what I intend to do.. use them as surrounds and front wides.. or just 4 surrounds, if I don't like how the first setup sounds..

Is room is treated with acoustic panels bass traps you name it , and with the amount of power in the rack i don`t see where the problem is .

But if you have doubts how it sounds you can ask him here Crazy Blue
