So we got some storms that came thru this morning. I had both my computer and my gfs laptop Hooke into an apc surge protector including the modem and router. Neither will turn on for computers but everything else in my place works. I changed outlets ect but the light even on the laptops external power thing won't light up.

Bad power supply? I so easy toget and how much they run? I have a 6 year old Dell desktop hers is a 4 year old hp laptop

First like to say sorry this happened

Dell desk top you will have to contact dell...when you dont build your own the problem is HP, Dell etc ----3rdpower supplies, and Mobo's wont bolt into chasis....this is how they keep service running

As for the laptop you need to meter power supply pins and see what voltage is coming out to make sure this is what it is.

If PS is dead there are a ton of after market laptop PS hopefully this will fix

Thanks, it suprised me that the modem and the router could be just fine when plugged into the same surge protector but the computers are the ones that got fried.

My HT in my bedroom was just fine that has my PS3, integrated amp, and my plasma and that was in a surge protector as well and that was just fine and dandy.

Maybe my insurance will cover a new computer if everything is fried? who knows...

APC should cover it, not your insurance. As far as I know, all APC surge products carry a "connected equipment" guarantee.

well turns out they are sending me a new surge protector and they are still trying to see how my computer got fried. the surge protector never got tripped so are trying to figure out what happened to it.

Power supply, mother board got fried. Power adapter for the laptop was also fried but got a new one of those so finally no club polk from my iphone!

Do you run your cable lines through the SP too? I'm wondering if the surge came in that way.

I'm thinking power supply is shot. If you take it out and head to a PC store they should be able to test it for you.

Keep us updated on what they do for you, if anything beyond replacing the surge protector.

I've never filed a claim with APC before, but they always tout their guarantee, so I'd like to see if they honor it, or find a way to weasle out of it.
