AT&T U-verse or Time Warner Cable

I need internet and HD television with DVR.
From what I can tell, AT&T looks cheaper and I like their DVR better, but I hear the picture quality is not as good and the internet is not as fast.
Can anyone here speak about their experience with one or the other or both? Which do you think is better?
I've never had either service, but I need to choose one in my new condo.
Help.
Thanks,
Mike

AT&T High Speed Internet is not fast (DSL). U-verse is faster but I don't have it. In some areas, AT&T internet, including U-verse, is capped. I'm just outside the city limits to avoid it.

It's going to depend on your area. They both vary greatly by the level of service in your area so you'll want to ask around there.
One thing I will say is that with U-Verse you're tied to their DVR but with Time Warner you can go the TiVo route if you want. The Time Warner boxes are terrible here, so I have TiVo boxes on all of my TVs, MUCH better than the Uverse or Time Warner boxes - that alone makes the decision for me a no brainer. -
Anybody from Columbus, Ohio know about AT&T or Time Warner?

I have Time Warner here in NC or as I call them Crime Warner. I hate their service but since I live in an apt complex I am stuck with them. I do not have any experience with Uverse but have heard good things about them.

Same here. Just call them up and say you're going to OTA antenna. Knocked $40 a month off for me.
For the OP:
Everyone I know that's gone from U-verse from TWC has been happy, but I'm 1/4 mile too far for AT&T to run it :rolleyes:Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Had Uverse for 3 years now.... no real issues to speak of. I will say that I always get the speed I'm paying for. Every time I check with speedtest.net, it right where it is supposed to be. That can't be said for the cable companies I have had in the past.

Been on Uverse for about 3 years as well. Never had any lag or speed issues with the web (and I game a lot so I would recognize it). No issues really with the HD signal and now you can stream/record up to 3 HD channels at the same time.
When I first started it was only 4 standard def or 2 HD (since each HD channel used 2 tuners).
I am running it on my 56" DLP and cant see any issues with the sound or picture."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

+1, We have TW, but we live in an area that does NOT have fiber optic cables so that limits our internet speeds and the HD pictures are a tad 'soft'. We also lose service occasionally thanks to TW. They're a monopoly in this area if you don't go satellite--no COMPETITION whatsoever!
Once you add Digital Phone service you seriously compromise your internet access..lucky if you're getting 2-3 mps because you MUST dedicate a direct line to the phone so that the phone has priority over all other internet access, otherwise the phone constantly goes OFF LINE!
And for that I pay over 140 a month? That is a crime!
Especially since very few families up here have the kind of income that can support such an 'extra' expense!
So no fiber optic access but, guess what, we pay as much or more than our friends in Boston!!
And why is that? So we can subsidize Boston where salaries are 4-5 times what they are up here?

Thanks for all the input guys. I was able to speak to some of my new neighbors and everyone is in agreement that AT&T is the way to go. The building is only a year old and evidently AT&T ran fiber optics throughout the place. One guy showed me a speed test that showed he was moving 22-24Mbps. That's fast enough for me!
