Hello guys, Thankfully all of my audio problems have been resolved execpt for a nagging possible heat problem. Before you come down on me for not knowing how to retrieve former posts this is the way I am going. I do believe my Yamaha is running to hot and does clipp on occassion. Now the scale on the rx-v665 goes from-75 to a positive +18. I frankley have no idea why this is their way of a volume scale and personally I think it sucks. That being said I again would appreciate your guys advice and links to fan selling sites. I would want from what I hear an exhaust type that is 110v powered. Budget
is minor and be possible to be able to add if the device is within my graps.
Thanks, I know you guys know this and I hope to get a quicky response.
Thanks a bunch, your sometimes confused simple minded LW......

The "CoolIt" from Active Thermal is a very nice cooling solution, but they're a little pricey. They have several different models to choose from.

    Hey LW,
If I try "whisper fan" on Google I get quite a few hits. There seems to be a couple of nice ones available at Amazon.com. Most places that sell any kind of computer gear will also have cooling fans. If your receiver is typical there will be some kind of conductive cooling arrangement already in place, usually heat sinks. The whisper fan is designed to increase the airflow over the heat sink fins.
I hope this is the kind of info you were looking for.
    Cheers, Ken

neinte,I took your pick for a fan distributer and went w/ a 12volt stept down exsaust w/ switch for on off . I think totall was under $40 dollars and a fast turn around time. Thanks alot and I'll be shure to tell all if this helps. It really should according to the techs there. Again thanks for the lead......LW

to gdb, yes thanks for the e-bay lead. I have totally lost all confidence w/ that kind of buying something. I've been beat out to many times and their "buy it now" prices were over what I'M paying now . Thanks again for the lead,I just can't getting out bid within a micro second. It's way to frustrating. In general I find that way to many people know what they have now and what it is worth and I don't see any bargins there, certainly not like C/L where you can have a desperate person who has to move or whatever and needs to get rid of said product. This is what happened to me when I picked up my refoamed Infinitys for $40 .The guy had to move back to Europe and had to let them go. This was his price and I did not haggle at all. I listened and said lets load them up and wished him good luck and was gone....lw

Just a very late up date. I did get a small box fan from Parts Express for $14.00 and minor shipping. Since then I still have not pushed the Yamaha mainly because I have the 2-chll deicated system w/ an Adcom gfa555 leading the way. If I wanted to let loose on the Yamaha, Klipsch said their spearkers could handle anything the RX-V665 can dish out so I pushed it a little w/ going up/down to -9 w/ absolutely no problems and before it certainly would clip. So the fan will stay just in case I get a movie that needs some boost but any music that gets turned up is religated to the ADCOM and the Infinitys SM112s.

An addment to a pevious statement. At first I went w/ cooler guys.com and what they sent meas a fan resembled something out of the Alien movie and was so in effective and the air flow was slow and indirect so I ditched it and got my new fan from Parts Express.com

LW - I just happened to recheck this thread--

I"m surprised on the Cooler Guys issue - I got turned onto them after having seen another setup with their fans

Mine blow very well and are barley audible

Ditto on Parts Express - i have shopped with them a number of times

How does cooling a receiver keeps it from clipping? It may stop it from going into protection mode from overheating, but it would still clip at the same level.

Good point....and I don't think we hit on why clipping is occuring rather than just a heat issue he may have. Kinda hard to follow your posts LW, maybe you have done so in the past, but if you could list your gear, cables and such and how everything is hooked up,maybe we could help you further on the clipping issue....or what appears to be clipping to you anyway.

I'm not sure it's clipping at all, or ever was. He has Klipsch speakers, they don't need much power.

Yeah, I know William, and actually thats the road I'm leaning towards. I don't believe it's clipping as we know it either but maybe a better description is forthcomming....or not.

Well the best way this novice can explain it goes as follows. Before I got my Adcom the Yamaha rx-v665 was the only source through music I had. I played it through a Tosiba au37 lcd tv, Denon1910ci cdp,i-net radio radio,Shure pro240 headphones and of course the Klipsch 500 set w/ an 8in pwrd sub. At normal volumes running at -28>-20 no problems at all. When pushed to see what this amp/avr can do going down to -10>-8 or so it would shut down. To me that's an amp clipping to compensate for to much heat generated. I did call Kilpsch techs and they claimed you could run Yamahas' 90w amp all day long and not effect the speakers. The speakers were never effected ,no ditortion and only the shut down of the rx-665. If you guys have a valid explanation for this I'm all ears. Good news w/ the Adcom w/ the Infinitys' there is no such grief here.

It was overheating, not clipping. Clipping causes distortion, although it's not always obvious.

I have had horrible luck putting a fan on things that are over-heating... lol

I will keep the story at that! :)
