Audioengine A5 Powered Booshelf Loudspeakers - 10/10 - Bamboo - *SOLD* to Gdpeck

If you haven't heard a proper set of powered monitors yet, this is certainly one of the best options I've come across. I've been using Quad 12L Studio's at my computer for almost two years and will most likely never go back to full bore setups anymore. The Audioengine sound much better than the NHT M00, Akti, Klipsch and those awful Rokr Best Buy speakers. All of which I've either owned or listened to extensively elsewhere.

I think simplicity is where it's at for a computer rig and I've done every combination prior to going self-powered. These have a very solid reputation and some reviews are noted below. With 3/4" cabinets, silk dome tweeters, kevlar mid-bass drivers and a toroid transformer inside? What's not to already love?

The speakers connect directly from your sound card, have front mounted volume controls and a USB/Minijack connection on top of one of them for your iPod, iTouch or similar music device. They are mated as pairs straight from the factory.

It's 100% brand new and have never been used. I opened up the bookends to see the finish which is absolutely stunning in Bamboo. The cabinets are very well made, hefty and take some time to read about these from the link provided above. Stop buying black speakers and get something exotic for a change. Aren't you tired of that rats nest of cabling you have for your current setup? or how about finally upgrading your computer rig to something impressive and worth talking about?

I have the matching Audioengine S8 Subwoofer that will be posted in a seperate thread. It can be used in conjunction with these speakers, another brand or as a stand alone subwoofer.

    Wireless-ready!
The Audioengine 5 has a built-in AC power outlet on the rear panel and a USB power port on the top panel thats perfect for powering wireless products to stream your music. Check out the Audioengine W1 Wireless Audio Adapter, Sonos, Squeezebox, or Apple's Airport Express for high- quality wireless options. The AC outlet is also ideal for powering other portable and home A/V equipment and a second auxiliary mini-jack is conveniently located nearby.

I was very impressed with them, as well as the non-powered lineup. They just didn't edge out my Quad so they're just moving down the road. They're also beautifully packaged which you don't often find in this price bracket.

If you don't have a kick-**** PC or main/spare bedroom setup....get one. If not this one, something but there's nothing like high quality sound in the spot you probably spend 50% of your time. I run my computer rig as much as my main one easily.

I believe it's time for something more than just a pair of RT25i at the secondary rig guys. I love Polk as much as the next guy but try something new and with a finish you'll never see from Polk Audio. Please take some time and read some of the finer points of them as well.

Don't hesitate to grab this pair!!! My non-powered AP4 speakers rules my 11x13 office room, providing clear-like-crystal, detailed-like-a-project-manager output while not taking up any notable space at all. And I got to add an external amp for that AP4 while this A5 set can deliver power by itself! Can't go wrong with it at all icon14.gif

I own a pair of a2, a5 and p4 with the n22 amp. i can honestly say that the better sounding ones are the a5 in the room i have them they sound pretty big.

with the p4 i posted a review and found that in my case they were lacking bass, but were extremelly good with 70hz and above. paired with a sub they are outsatanding, however for full range the a5 are better, the a2 are quite good as well.

guys go ahead and get them they are nice!!!!

Edubag - Man, you sure have the AE audio lockdown going on in your house, lol. This was a totally new brand for me and was impressed. Thanks for posting the kind words.

Seriously guys, you need to try out some powered monitors at some point, and this should be your first stop. Nearfield listening is a whole new world. If you want to work out a plan, I'm sure something can be arranged....provided we kinda know one another at least.

It's been mentioned about special sound cards and DACS, etc etc when using these types of speakers. I've been using my stock ASUS, on-board sound card for my Quad's since day 1 and they sound awesome. I don't use an outboard DAC....and as far as cables, a Signal Cable splitter and Analog 2 cables to the tune of about $50.

This isn't rocket science guys. Can you improve upon it? Absolutely. Can you keep your burns and files in the highest rates possible and have great sound? Absolutely. Don't get lost in the details if you haven't even determined your baseline.

What did they sell for or better , what did you want for them, can I ask?
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Of course Tony, $375 shipped is what I asked for and received. I didn't have a lot of wiggle room in them and simply wanted to recoup what I had in them.

Don't know if feedback is working yet. Didn't even try, so here's my feedback. Great transaction as usual with Mark. This transaction wasn't seamless like my past deals with Mark have been. It seemed that FedEx was hell-bent on losing the speakers and it took a while for any tracking information to show up, and then for it to get updated. The worst part was that what should have been a three day delivery took closer to three weeks.

None of this was Mark's fault; it was all on the shipper. Lesser sellers might have been less communicative or quick to lay blame in situations such as this, but Mark's was always quick to reply to my emails and ready to do the right thing throughout.

As for the speakers themselves, I love them. I'm running them directly from the soundcard of my macbook pro with a Velodyne SPL800 sub. The only problem is that I'm finding it hard to leave my office now. That would be OK if I was getting any work done, but these speakers refuse to stay in the background, and I find myself very involved (maybe too involved) in the music when I'm listening to them. The bamboo is absolutely beautiful too.

    Thanks!
    George

That finish is beautiful George and thanks for being patient. FedEx was absolutely horrible to work with and you don't know half of it. I believe that the driver tried to pilfer the speakers and was hoping I'd give up and let the case close. When I met him at the store pickup and said I was going to request the video of the store....they magically showed up in the system two days later. Interesting huh?

Oh well....they showed up and that's all that matters. I have the same problem to this day with my Quad rig at the computer. It sounds so damn good that it's hard to worry about firing up the main rig.

    Enjoy!!!!

Nope, and I doubt it ever will be fixed.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I've had some bad experiences with FedEx lately, with both shipping damage and transit times (though, not as bad as you). I think I'm to the point where I will use UPS and USPS exclusively, depending on the shipment. UPS can be more expensive for ground shipments, but it is worth it to me. Both seem to be more reliable and less prone to shipping damage - at least when delivering to my area.

However, I will say that DHL is the worst from my experiences. They are incredibly unreliable, and their "customer support" is a joke (even worse than Comcast, but not as bad as AT&T).
