I am tossing around the idea of trying out one of these players. Has anyone had any experience with them? Would it be a notcieable improvement from my old Denon CD Changer (no slouch back in its day, but that day has long since come and gone...)
What would be a good price for one??
Thanks for the input as always...

It'll sound nice with your LSi's. Used average is around $300-350.

Yup - I had one of these until getting into SACDs.

Nice player - can reveal detail in CDs with a big soundstage.

Look for used ones on audiogon.com

There is one now, but it is in silver (My OCD would be better satiated with a black one) and there are a couple on E-Bay I have my eye on...

If I dont upgrade the CDP I may try modding the x-overs (for fun and curiousity) as I have heard good things...

I just hope that uprgrading the CDP is enough of a bump to notice significant improvements in the sound.
The DCM-460 uses 20-bit DACS is dual differential mode just like the Cambridge....
Would I be better to save some more cash and buy a better player??

You could always resell the 640c if it doesn't please you - not like you would be 'stuck' with it.

Also, take this for what its worth:

I really liked the sound of the 640c V1 I had, but 2 of them broke on me within 30 days. I then had 2 more Cambridge products break within a week of ownership. This was about 5 years ago so maybe they have improved since then. Best of luck.

That's exactly why the V2 was released, the V1 had issues. Between my parents, girlfriend, and I, we've owned a 340C, 540C, 550C, and a 840C, the only issue I can think of between all 4 players is the 840C had trouble with a burnt disk.

I also bought a Cambridge 83SE? and a 640H music server. The SE83 was dead right out of the box. The 640H worked well for a week, then froze up often. Others have had better luck than I with Cambridge products. I liked their sound, but I am done with that brand. YMMV

Sorry to hear of your issues with them, sounds like they bring a black cloud into your home.

Forgot about the DacMagic, 540D and 640P I owned that had no problems either.
