Status on the Monument fire

We've been told to stay in a "pre-evacuate" status, as the 45mph winds today not only fueled the fire, it prevented the borate planes from flying.

Carr Canyon is now on fire (as this thing moves northward) this is the canyon we camp at often. What a shame, it's beautiful up there.

No word yet, but I suspect the fort will call and tell us to stay home. For those familiar with the area, Ricardos Restaurant (the BEST Mexican food in the USA) is gone, as is Nick's place in Hereford.

We've got the truck packed with essentials, and I'll keep you all in the loop--The Monument Fire has a FACEBOOK page too, for the latest.

Thank you guys and gals for the well wishes and prayers---we'll be ok, so don't worry too much about it.

Steve & Bev

Too bad, Carr Canyon is a nice place. It looks like a dynamic situation on TV.

We're here if you need us...

    UPDATE:

The Mesquite Tree LIVES! Got the real deal this morning as the 2 firefighters staying with us called and confirmed that the restaurant was OK. Jim said everything around it was scorched, but the "tree" was fine.

I heard that John Mc Cain started that fire! Is it impacting the stands of saguaro cactus? That'd really suck in addition to everthing else!:frown:

MUCH, MUCH BETTER DAY yesterday. They are getting the upper hand. Yesterday was the first day it didn't look like an active volcano.

Just read about more possible evacuations tonight. I hope you are not affected by these:

The wind may have died down, but someone turned up the heat.....Big time. 105 today and 110 tomorrow in Tucson.

I feel sorry for those firefighters that are putting up with 100+ temps.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

They are doing some back-burning tonight to remove potential fuel, so they are evacuating these areas due to excessive smoke.

Dave & Jim are very happy coimg to our house every evening.

Yep--dry lightning is usually the source of these things, and the occassional numb-nuts that doesn't put out his campfire. Hopefully monsoon isn't too far off.

40% containment, last nights' controlled burns were successful and w/o incident--so far so good. The Carr peak is still burning, but I would imagine that they will let it burn to clear all the under-brush.
