Hey, if this has been posted, just let me know, but I haven't been on in a few months...
I've rented the new True Grit twice (non-BR, they were out) and neither would play in OPPO BR players....they would start loading and then freeze....the only way to get the disc out was to turn of the machine and then push eject....
I've had a couple problems with discs over the years...one caused me to have to send the player to OPPO....
anyone with this problem.....any trick around to get it to play?
thanks......neil

I noticed this problem too - different DVD - Big Trouble in Little China. My Oppo 83 freezes at about 1 minute into the movie.
Same disc works fine in my laptop and my wife's DVD player.
My f/w is up to date...I think....

I have never heard of regular DVDs giving playback issues. That technology was perfected years ago. Of course, that does not mean it cannot happen, but it should be rare case. A disk defect would make more sense.
I played the BR version last night in the BDP-93, and it worked, I did have a problem with some BRs on my previous BDP-83, but a firmware upgrade to the latest Beta code fixed it. Never had any DVD issues, and all my Netflix rentals are DVD.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits. -
I did firmware upgrade and no help. I think this is the first reg DVD that has given me a problem on the 83.....blockbuster said they hadn't had any others complaining....and the guys there would tell me....
guess I'll go back and try to get the BR
for some reason, they only had 3 copies of BR and about 100 of reg......thanks....
