It appears that you've cut the Epik from your list. I started with an Energy 8" sub and an Onkyo 10" sub. Trashed them both and got an Epik Empire, holy smoke!! The sealed dual 15 inchers create an atomic wasteland in my bedroom. I run it at 1/4 volume and get all the thump I need.

I had the nerve to take a vacation and have been freaking swamped at work. I have not had enough time to do my due dilligance yet, but I do like the craig sub duo or hsu, but kind of want to build my own just to build a cool unique and astetically pleasing box. I do think think I will go with two of them. When the dust settles a bit at work I will make my decision. This forum has gotten me excited so I may squeeze it in in a week or two. I do greatly appreciate everyones imput and will post an update with my final decision and my review of the equipment.

On subs I can see I just paint them black , but I make sure all joints are perfect that way I could wood veneer them later . I was think of buying a tubular concrete form tube (cardboard cylinder) the round walls sound good because there are no flat walls for resonation , plus they are cheap and easy , home depot has some , only thing is they take up a bunch of room

For the fun of it you can take a look at this shootout made from some guys at AVS and they are on your price range .

I would second this review. these guys did a great job.

Well, I did it. I finally pulled the trigger. I bought two HSU Research VTF-3 MK3 subwoofers. They were on sale in July and I called them and asked if they can do an even better discount for two and they did sweeten the deal a little bit more.

All I have to say is WOW!!!! They are so much clearer and overall more owerfu than the 505's that I replaced. I thank everyone because they were not even really on my radar. They really kick arse. Unfortunately I have been too busy to go through all my favorite bass movies, but I greatly look forward to doing so. I did watch Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, and The explosions about blew my living room up. It is pretty freaking cool.

For the price they are really great. I am happy with them. I was tempted to get the 15's but two of them would have been out of my price range a bit. Overall they sound great and it is a massive improvement
