Yep, our favorite wacked out place to make fun of continues on their coarse. With all the problems California faces, the powers at be seem to think time spent creating laws to ban goldfish is well worth the taxpayer dime.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/06/16/san-francisco-wants-to-ban-goldfish-to-prevent-their-inhumane-suffering/?test=latestnews

I mean c'mon, don't you guys out there have bigger fish to fry ? No pun intented. Who comes up with this crap and then runs for re-election with a straight face ?

Since it is a commission I doubt if anyone is elected. Most commissions are appointed. They make recommendations, if a majority agrees, to the elected officials, who then can agree or disagree with it.

It is just a proposal, and probably nothing will come of it. Also, it isn't banning pets as the article says. It is proposing banning the sale of these animals in pet stores. Personally, I agree with putting a stop to selling dogs and cats in pet stores since the animal shelters are over flowing with dogs and cats that need a home. However, I'm not sure where else one can get fish, hamsters, birds, etc. other than a pet store.

The state of Maryland is spending a cool million changing the names of two mountains in the western region of the state due to their offensive names. Wanna know what they are? Negro Mountain and Polish Mountain, named in the 1800's or something. I'm so happy that I'm paying for this BS.

It would be funny if it wasn't so threatening to our basic liberties. There seems to be no end as to what these liberal nutcase lawmakers are currently willing to limit.

Might as well just ban the whole fishing industry. Wouldn't putting a hook through the mouth of a fish be cruel and unusual punishment for the poor fishy ?

Banning goldfish would cause my Oscars to suffer. Stalking, chasing, and eating goldfish supports and maintains their natural, predatory instincts.

Yes. That is the answer. Everyone should catch all their pets. I have three feral cats, momma and two kittens, that took up residence in my backyard shed, and are now domesticated house cats.

Oh, I miss my Oscar. He was 12" long and loved to be petted on the head. Every time I would feed him goldfish, his colors went through the roof and he just seemed more active.

    RIP, big guy. :frown:

"The proposed ban is meant to discourage ?impulse buys? of pets that sometimes end up at shelters, said commission member Philip Gerrie."

Hmmm. A shelter for unwanted goldfish ? We used to have one of those at home.
