Optimal conditions for Monitor 10s?

Hello all!
I got a pair of Monitor 10s (I think they're 10b. They have the SL2000 tweeter) a couple of weeks ago and have been loving their presence, but they've been feeling a bit muddy and I thought I'd ask here to see if maybe I just don't have them set up quite right. The high end is there, but not really as forward as I'd like it to be, while the low end is booming.
I've read that you need at least 100 WPC to make them shine, but my little Marantz 2230 has them filling the room (and house) with noise at about 1/3rd volume. Do you think it would be better with a higher powered amp?
Right now they are sitting on either side of an Ikea expedit with about an inch on either side of them free and about 10 inches between them and the wall they're against. They're not toed in at all and they're not on stands. Would doing those things help with the missing high end?
Any info you can give would be lovely! Thanks!

The 10's should be on a stand to raise the tweeters to ear level when sitting. They should be about 7 feet apart and 6 feet from your seating to get good imaging. I don't toe my speakers either. I owned the 7's, 10's, and now the RTA 12. I think the two mid-range drivers over power the the tweeter and make it a little muddy. Of all the vintage polks 5, 7, 10, and 12 the 10's are considered to be more bass'y than the others.

Make sure the tweeters are at ear level. If the speakers are too low now, try sitting at ear level and see if that improves the high end. I have heard claims that stands do a lot to help out with the low end on Monitor 10s (if nothing else they help bring the tweeters to ear level).

Put them on stands designed for m10's (do a search here, there's been several threads on stands) and toe them in a bit. I have mine about 6" off the wall with about 7' between them (10ft to my listening position).
They do like a bit of power. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
try this thread for stand plans

Thanks for the link to the stands thread. Sounds like that's my best bet, so that's what I'll do.
Just out of curiosity, how much power are those of you with M10s driving them at? -

I used to run them off a Kenwood M1A amp (105 watts), and now I run them off my Pioneer Elite vsx80txv avr (110watts)
I liked them better on the Kenwood. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.
