I am not going to go on record saying that I retract my statement of not having bass drivers in your mains is the way to go but I will go on record that having actually decent powered subs in your mains are pretty freakin fun!

I have a set of BP2004TL towers from Definitive here - now granted they are not going to win any awards in the accuracy or tone department.... but for bass output, extension, dynamics... just rock and rap and HT, no finese here - just insanely fun speakers to enjoy music that is not recorded the best or just to rock out...

Might keep these bad boys around as a "rock-it-out" speaker... or I might try to find a pair of the bigger brother (BP3000TL)

Fun to just throw it in and not experience every last detail in the recording! :)

My Dad has the 3000TL's. I have never listened to much 2 channel on them. But HT.....damn!

He also has the 2000's and I think 2001TL's?!? Not sure.

you guys don't seem to like Deftech speakers, why? I thought they're at least the same or better than Polk. I heard from the beginning, most engineers there are from Polk.

most DefTech subs go a lot lower than other brands, not sure how.

definitive is a fun speaker i have a soft spot for them. Def techs ratings are false. They quote -10db as their response instead of -3db. As far as being better than polk that would boil down to preference.

I can't speak for all, but I would say that like any product, Def Tech has a variety of product lines that meet a variety of needs or applications. I think DefTech's best product is the Mythos line, but their powered towers is probably what they are best known for. I've heard the towers and their ok; they aren't suited for critical listening, but excel when you want something ... fun. :)
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I like them. I'd love to have a pair of 3000's! I have never heard the mythos line, but the 2002TL, 3000 etc. I really liked.

Used to have a ProSub200tl subwoofer. 10 inch driver with something like 200 watts rms. Supposedly went down to 18hz. Yeah, right lol. Not that it was bad sub or anything, just didn't do what they claimed. So it seems they have a history of doing that.

    But yeah, good speakers.

I've had an ear on many a Def Tech, amazing for HT, not so much on the music side of things. I thought seperation and detail was lacking, too congested, and the bottom end brought too much attention to itself. Thats just my observation and consistant with my distain for powered towers for anything other than HT. Haven't had a chance to hear the mythos line yet so things may have improved.

See Tonyb - you described Def Tech really well... the plus to all of that is if you are just in a "rock out" mood they are fun as hell! Just balls to the wall!

I have had them hooked up for three days solid - just digging them... loads of fun! I may keep these - I am considering it heavily for speakers to pull out and let em rip!
