Having an Ophthalmic Migraine...

This sucks. Not sure if any of you guys have been through this but its freakin' trippy. At this moment, I am seeing strange colored patterns in my vision in both eyes. They appear to be moving and where they appear, I can't see anything beyond them. They are like oval shaped ribbons with a kind of "kaleidoscope" effect.
I did a Bing search and found this:
Migraine headaches may be preceded by a visual "aura", lasting for 20 to 30 minutes, and then proceeding to the headache. Some people, however, experience the aura but do not have a headache. This visual aura can be very dramatic. Classically, a small blind spot appears in the central vision with a shimmering, zig-zag light inside of it. This enlarges, and moves to one side or the other of the vision, over a 20 to 30 minute period. When it is large, this crescent shaped blind spot containing this brightly flashing light can be difficult to ignore, and some people fear that they are having a stroke. In reality, it is generally a harmless phenomenon, except in people who subsequently get the headache of migraine. Since migraine originates in the brain, the visual effect typically involves the same side of vision in each eye, although it may seem more prominent in one eye or the other.
Some people get different variations of this phenomenon, with the central vision being involved, or with the visual effect similar to "heat rising off of a car". Some people describe a "kaleidoscope" effect, with pieces of the vision being missing. All of these variations are consistent with ophthalmic migraine.
The pics I attached are similar but mine are more oval, and in the middle of the oval vision is good, its just around the edges of the oval.
So I'm sweatin' bullets right now because I'm hoping it doesn't come with a headache.

Yup, I've had 'em twice... the first time (while driving) scared the bejabbers out of me. I was far more philosophical the second time.
Mine did not lead to headaches; nor do I get migraine headaches (to date). -
I've had them a few times, as well. Usually corrolates to stress, for me. Usually get a mild headache afterward, but never like your typical "migraine headache"
BTW- my doctor recommended taking 4 ibuprofen as soon as the aura starts to knock the migraine down. It seems to work.Ludicrous gibs! -

Well its official: No headache. Thank goodness."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -
Take 2 of those Excedrin migraine tabs and a can of coke. I get the same migraine occasionally and it does wonders. If you don't have any, do the 4-6 ibuprofen.Fronts: Polk RTi A9's

That sounds fantastic aside from the potential pain issue.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

FYI for anyone with migraines - Excedrin Migraine and plain old Excedirn are the same thing in different bottles. So if one costs less than the other, buy it. They are literally EXACTLY the same.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Yeah good point. They all have the aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine. No need to pay more for the one with "migraine" on the package if you don't have to.Fronts: Polk RTi A9's

Well thanks Doro. I just sprayed my laptop screen with tea from laughing at you post.
It is colorful, but it scared the SSSSSSSS out of me. I was watching a new TV that I bought on Sunday and at first thought it was the monitor.
I did not get a headache from it though, I have only the color show."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -
Take 2 excedrin migraine.
I get those type pretty often. Mine go from kalidescope vision to numbness in my left arm, and then the headache from hell. If I take the aspirin as soon as I notice the vision problem, I get to by-pass the headache.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
I'm just really impressed that you spelled "Ophthalmic" correctly."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason."

One more detail, I think its the most interesting; I can still see the anomaly when my eyes are closed (no escape!), its actually brighter when you close your eyes."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson.

I admit I had to look that one up."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -
The key is to catch them early, and get that aspirin in you.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I've had them a few times. Apparently dehydration is a factor. It's pretty freaky, but completely pain-free for me.

My first episode was scary as hell. I was watching TV and all of a sudden, I realized that all I could see was the center of someone's face on the TV. Everything else was blocked out and/or flashing lightning bolts that looked as if you were watching lightning through a kaleidoscope. I immediately called my wife and asked her if my eyes looked OK. No problem, so I go look in the mirror and I can focus on one eyeball but I could not see my own face!
Turned out that even though I have 20/20 vision, I had astigmatism which confused the brain and that is what caused my migraines. After an eye exam and once the glasses got here to correct the astigmatism, the occurrences stopped within 3 days. I have had 3 episodes lately but that's probably because I have not been to the eye doc in over a year and a half. My eyes have probably adjusted again.
Just be glad that you don't feel the headache and don't worry. The episodes generally only last between ten to twenty minutes. Just be VERY careful when driving when it gets real bad. It's best to just go ahead and pull over until the visions are gone. Something is causing the migraines. You need to find out exactly what the cause is so you can address it accordingly. Good luck and stay safe.
Oh, at the first hint of these episodes, do yourself a favor and take either asprin or Alieve immediately. This will help to thwart off a real bad episode or a migraine that you can actually feel, which can and will occur from time to time.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Have had them with and without pain. I got to say much better without the pain.
I used to get migraines all the time but now it is more of a sinus thing that causes them.
By the way the pain was real bad. Felt nausea, dizzy and I was so sensitive to light that a candle was like looking at the sun at midday. Not fun..
