I need some help with choosing some speakers. I originally, in my infinite wisdom, FORGOT to wire a sub. I did with 4 speakers though. However, I wanted to have better sound, so have been looking at in walls, etc. Need help.

Let me explain diagram. L basement. Down arrow is STAIRS. TV is star.

I will have to have a Wireless subwoofer most likely. This i am not thrilled about.

I do have spots to mount cieling speakers for surrounds. I do not have to do in cieling speakers (and had originally preferred not to).

For walls, I had thought to get some thin bookshelf type speakers and mount them. However, most bookshelves are 9" deep and I cannot mount it that deep. The space in front of the TV is a walkway. The wall the TV is on is 1/2 drywall on 2x6 with a double header and firblocking horizontal studs. So the space the speaker (if in wall) would go in, would be roughly 14"x6"x48"

So now heres the dilemma. I saw Rc85i. They have lots of reviews.

However, I have heard Lc65i is better for music. Slightly different price points of course.

So with all this rambling. The other question is - what the hell is with the Vanishing LS/RT, the LCI, the RC, etc? Whats current? Whats "good/better/best"? What would handle louder rock music better?

Would any of them work better without subs than others, or will they all need a sub?

Do the wireless subs suck?

Do in cieling speakers suck?

Would I be better off spending $500 on in wall speakers for front, and foregoing my surround setup just to have really good music speakers?

I have been using pc speakers to play music, so I guess i am no audiophile. I bought some 2.1 for office and were amazed how many new tones were in my favorite songs that i had been missing on my crappy old logitech 5.1 pc speakers :)

Rc85i good enough then, buy 4? forget sub?

What do you guys think?

oh yeah - ovals are couches. Pentagon is my workout/misc area.

Currently the speakers are wired with the intention of sitting on couches. My tv is an older plasma that sits out about 5" from wall, on an articulating wallmount that i swing out.

Dimensions of the room are about 25x12 (ignoring the random part at the bottom of stairs where my toddler has a pile of crap

How'd you get into my basement to take that pic? lol - Good ol' 4 level splits. I can't really help you too much, but do you happen to be in MN?

Just asking because that's where I'm from, and I should be due up for the wireless sub demo sometime in the near future. I'm interested to see 1) how wireless performs, and 2) how a "decent" sub stacks up against my $99 black friday Sony. I'd be willing to have you come on over for a demo to see what you think if it would help you make a decision. I know store auditions really don't do anyone justice, so if you needed a real life room, lemme know.

that is very generous. I am up in the st cloud area though. My dirty little secret is I intend to abuse these speakers and play guitar along with them. media pc (possibly gaming pc). My stairs hosts my computer, and misc.

It is a total guys basement. Articulating wall mount so i can watch tv while on elliptical or bike, only 1 couch downstairs that fits me and my son to play super mario kart. My guitar amps are going in it as well since it has a high pile carpet so acoustics are better than office.

My wife tried to make it look nice so she could have her friends over. She gave up. I just wish I didnt have to walk past tv, i cant have 9" monitors in basement.

It doesnt seem that polk bothered making anything slimmer and taller. Not sure why.

Tell me about it - I'm in the process of shopping for a new TV stand/hutch, and I'm finding that most furniture I can actually goto the store and touch gives me about 5 inches for my center. CS2 doesn't cut it in that case, so I'm stuck with my stand/rack combo.

What you need are some of those fancy panel speakers that are like 3x6 and hang on the wall. lol

I live in Coon Rapids - so when I finally do get the demo, I'll be sure to post up about it in case you happen to be in the area or looking to take a drive.

You would only need one soundbar as they cover the fronts and rears by themselves.

Not sure if that would work with how wide the dispersion will need to be with a couch next to a love seat.

Wireless subs aren't bad but I think wired is better at this point.
